A 7-year-old Norwalk, California boy who hid in a locked bathroom and dialed 911 when three gunmen barged into his family’s home is being hailed as a hero and rightfully so. The child hid in the bathroom with his sister and pleaded with the dispatcher to send help. “Bring cops . . . a lot of them! . . . And soldiers too,” the boy said.
The attackers broke into the bathroom and found the boy. At that point, screaming is heard on the 911 tape. When the attackers found out the boy had called 911 they fled without injuring anyone or taking any property.
I am amazed at the mindset of this little 7 year old boy to have grabbed his sister, the phone, lock himself in the bathroom and call 911. This just points out how important it is to teach children how to call 911.

These are the type of stories that tug at your heart. I hope they find these thugs and throw the book at them. We taught our boys how to call 911 and was shocked to see it worked as our 10 year old called them (with his buddy) and we received a call back asking if everything was OK! Sometimes good intentions end up backfiring as inquisitive children find their way.
Someday this young man will realize how he may have saved the lives of his entire family. What a strong child.
Oh that’s amazing, but so hard to listen to the terror in that little boy’s voice. He was so brave and he even grabbed his little sister and took her w/him in the bathroom? Thank goodness they are all safe.
He is a hero! What a defining moment for this boy. He saved his entire family (and a few deranged thugs from a murder charge.) God bless him. My heart was racing when I listened. I could never be a 911 dispatcher. They keep emotion toned down so well.
On a related note, I overheard a young school girl threaten to call “1-9-1″ on some boys who were teasing her. THAT is the teachable moment! I had to tell her she needs to start with the “9″ if she ever really needs the police because no one answers at “1-9-1.”

I agree that I could never be a 911 dispatcher either. The young woman who took the call was amazing.

This is horrifying to listen to. That poor baby- so glad he was able to think clearly and do this. Its amazing when you think about it. I have taught my child about 911 but there’s a fine line in teaching preparedness and scaring her to death. So glad they are all okay.
