Fashion accessories are decorative items that supplement one’s outfit. They basically encompasses everything that embellishes a woman from head to toe. Jewelry, gloves, handbags, hats, belts, scarves, watches and sunglasses are a few that come to mind quickly.
Accessories may add color, style and class to an outfit or they can make your outfit look busy or cluttered and turn it into a fashion disaster. Fashion wouldn’t be what it is today without accessories.
Most of us have at least one accessory that we just can’t do without. If you have read one of my recent posts you might think mine would be Crocs. In reality my pick would be sunglasses. I have very sun sensitive blue eyes and I wear my sunglasses even when it is cloudy and raining. In addition, they do a really good job covering up dark circles and bags under the eyes when a person is out late the night before and did not get much sleep (and possibly too lazy to put on makeup to run to the store.)

Well, if sunglasses count, then it’s my prescription sunglasses! Very necessary for a long commute directly into the winter sun every morning and afternoon (we call that sunnyside up driving.)
I feel naked when I go out without earrings on.
Pam I agree about the sunglasses. I have light blue eyes and the older I get the more sensitive they become. (or should I say the more mature) The other thing I can never leave home without is my purse. I carry the same one everyday so that I don’t have to change everything.
Paula, I have started leaving my purse at home and just taking a credit card/cash holder for short trips. I still take my purse to work every day.
I use to wear earrings to work every day but I could never find a pair that did not bother me. I appear to be allergic to nickle and a few other things that are found in jewelry so I just gave up and I have not missed wearing them at all.
I am not my mother’s daughter when it comes to accessories. She always looks great and wears necklaces, earrings, pins, bracelets, scarves galore. It makes it easier to buy things for her at Christmas and for her birthday.
I’m not a subscriber to the “take one accessory off before you leave the house” way of doing things. I like bracelets personally, and usually won’t leave the house without a 5 decade rosary bracelet. I also really enjoy sunglasses (the bigger the better), and a beautifully colored cashmere knit scarf is almost always with me from October through May. Truly, though, my can’t do without (non-fashion) accessory is perfume.
I love purses and sunglasses, but I have some kind of sunglass curse! I cannot go very long without breaking them, no matter how careful I try to be. I’ve broken 3 pairs just this semester, and it’s always in some kind of freak mishap. Plus, my face is pretty narrow at my eyes, so I have trouble finding pairs that aren’t too big for my face (those trendy oversize sunglasses make me look like a bug!). I’m also a lipgloss fanatic, and I used to have this crazy routine that required like 6 different product applications, but not i just swipe some vaseline on before I head to class.
Home in 3 days!!!!
I now love scarves. I cant get enough. I just bought a new red and black one and I wore it twice this weekend. I didn’t want to spend the money on a new “holiday” outfit so I bought several colorful scarves and they really add something to my tired outfits
Love them!
I’m so unfashionable. Like some of you, sunglasses are a must. I have sensitive eyes. I only wear earrings about twice a year. I have some beautiful necklaces and the ones that were gifts mean a lot to me, but I never put them on.
Jasmin, I always lose my sunglasses, even when I’m careful. I gave up long ago and only wear cheap ones.
Jasmin, 3 days – that is great. And vaseline can do wonders – making your lips pretty, but also softening them. It’s a must for me this time of year.
Lily, like you I have some pretty necklaces that “could” really dress up an outfit, but I don’t bother to put them on a lot of times.
I do love scarves and hoop earrings!
I love my chap stick in the winter months and lip gloss during the Spring and Summer time months, just can’t leave the house without one.
I can’t go without my rings. I was running late one day and made my hubby turn the car around so I could get my rings. I feel naked without rings on my fingers. I always used to wear lipstick but with kids I’m just happy once in awhile.
I love scarves too but with two young kids I tend to stay away from anything that could be used as a weapon..hee hee.
I’m so unfashionable too. As a mother of several young children, I’ve found I can’t wear anything other than rings. Anything else gets yanked off and broken-glasses, necklaces, bracelets. Even rings have have a low setting or Id scratch someone.
I would have to say my can’t do without it fashion accessory is a ponytail holder. And not not even a pretty one. Pretty ones never stay in. Just a good old plain reliable elastic ponytail holder which often doubles as a bracelet.
Oh, my goodness, Pam, I can’t believe you said that, because I am the EXACT same way! I never leave the house without sunglasses! And even at night I will wear them in the cold weather because otherwise my eyes start to tear (to the point where people think I am crying!). Well, I just recently bought a pair of low-power reading glasses so I don’t look like an idiot wearing sunglasses in the dark!
As far as other accessories I don’t have anything in particular, of course gloves in the cold because I have poor circulation, but I’m not a stickler worrying if they match! And I have rings and bracelets and a cross that I never take off (sleep and shower and do everything with them on), but I don’t really consider them fashion accessories, I consider them treasures that bring to mind wonderful family times, loved shared, and memories.
Sometimes I actually do wish we were ‘back in the day’ when women dressed up to meet for lunch or tea with little pill box hats (with veils!) and white gloves and heels and a little purse to match an afternoon suit!
I can’t believe I just wrote that ~ I LIVE IN JEANS!!
