From Page to Screen

By Jennie

The film version of Eat, Pray, Love, starring Julia Roberts, came out yesterday. The Elizabeth Gilbert book was a bestseller, remaining on the New York Times bestseller list for years after its publication. As such, no doubt there are many devoted fans who will flock to the theaters hoping to recreate the special experience they had reading the book. But is that possible?

Write by the Water

By Gwen Morrison

Maybe it’s the sound of waves softly caressing a shoreline, or the power behind a rushing waterfall, but writers will tell you there’s something about water that draws them. That inspires creativity.

So, because I am a writer, and because like all writers I know, I am drawn to the sea, I embarked on a new journey (along with a talented writer and novelist friend) to bring writers together “by the water.”

Books You HAVE To Read

By Jennie

“You have to read this book!” – words guaranteed to get my back up. There is nothing that guarantees quite the same combination of annoyance, guilt, resentment and the fear that I may be missing something as those six little words. My aunt (much loved by me in a general sense) is a great one for insisting that you read something that she loves (she does the same with movies), and usually my desire to read said book diminishes in proportion with each mention of it.

What are You Reading?

By Jennie

I’ve read several good books lately: I recently finished Her Fearful Symmetry by Audrey Niffenegger (who wrote The Time-Traveler’s Wife), a sort of modern-day ghost story set in London, featuring two sets of twins, long-buried family secrets, and a sprawling Victorian cemetery famous as the final resting place of Karl Marx.

Five Books

by Jennie

I’m always wishing I had more time for reading. I try to plan reading time sometimes; if I have a day off I’ll tell myself that I’m going to do nothing but read all day. It doesn’t usually pan out, though – real life has a way of intruding, with its errands, crisises, and the occasional unplanned nap.

Ivy: The Story of a Friendship

How is everyone coming along with the book? Are we ready to discuss yet? I am going to move Anya’s questions in the comment section of the previous thread to this main post.

Recognizing that people are at different stages of reading, I thought I would start with a few basic questions for our readers:
