These days, receiving anything important through snail mail is extra special; in an age of instant messages, texts, and email, there is an intangible and irreplaceable sense of importance and ceremony in receiving something through traditional mail. When that envelope comes with your name written across the front, you know it is something big – a wedding, a baby shower, a graduation, or any one of the landmark life experiences that make us human. As we slide open the sealed flap, we don’t want to see just a plain piece of paper, we want to see an extravaganza of color, elegant writing, and little details that make us feel honored and important for receiving this special piece of paper.

First off I want to say Klutz Books have been a favorite in our house for a while now. My 10 yr old has quite a few of their books. She discovered them at Target about 2 years ago. I fight temptation when I see something that comes so close to meeting those requirements, and I really like it, and it’s such a deal, and who knows? When I will find another one, and it wouldn’t be great for _______?

Usually this time of year the kids and I have loads planned for what we are going to do for Easter. The cold and crazy weather has seemed to put a damper on most of the stuff we planned so I found a few quick ones we could do and I thought I’d share.

I live in a city. My experiences with “nature” are few and far between. But since I’ve gotten into gardening, I have, by necessity, become familiar with the “fauna” part of “flora and fauna” (can snails be classified as “fauna”, I wonder?). Most of the time I’m dealing with smallish creatures of the buggy and crawlie variety – worms, spiders, ants, terrifying unidentified things with many, many legs.
