Evolution of A Crafter

Written by CraftyMomof3

I am a mom of three. One of my favorite things to do “pre-babies” was mindlessly wander around any craft or stationary supply store I could find- for hours at a time. I would buy things that I had no purpose for because they were cute!

There’s No Hushin’ Honey

It’s been a while since I’ve contributed to this site. I apologize for that. Summer time is busy! I hope y’all enjoyed a pleasant Summer with the kiddos home from school. I was always glad to have them home and relieved to see them go back to school. I told y’all last time that after talking about all that work, I would tell you about some of the fun stuff.

What’s Your Favorite Way to Spend an Evening?

Written by Anya

I recently came across an interesting Gallup poll. Although it was several years old, I believe the answers probably haven’t changed much in the interval – especially considering the current economic climate.

Raising Monarchs

Written by Ann

It had been a few years since I have pursued this little summertime hobby, but I have had the chance to do so this summer and I thought I’d share it.

About ten years ago, I took a class through a nature preserve on raising monarch butterflies. I learned to identify the milkweed the eggs are laid on, find eggs and caterpillars, keep them healthy and well-fed through the metamorphosis into beautiful monarch butterflies, and tag and release them.

Something Old, Something New – Preserving wedding memories

Modern day dress preservation

My mother’s gown was gorgeous – a classic princess silhouette in silk satin with lace ruffles and an illusion neckline. As a little girl I remember taking it out of the cedar chest and trying it on. Even though it became tattered over time, I was determined to wear it on my wedding day. There was one problem. My mom was a whopping 89 pounds when she married my dad back in 1948. I don’t remember ever weighing 89 pounds!

THE FIRST FLOWER

Written by Lizabeth

Confession–I am not a gardener…at all. I am not inclined to enjoy
trudging through the mud early in the morning to water flowers, or digging
weeds out of the ground, or getting rid of the nasty insects which attempt
to ruin my garden.

TATTERED TREASURES

Written by Eileen

My friend Barbara and I always talked about how we were going to open a sort of thrift shop and call it “Tattered Treasures”, and we joked about how between the two of us the shop would have a full inventory. I love almost anything old.

WHY I NEVER LEFT THE DORK FOREST

Written by Honeyhush

If my first article had been titled “Why I Entered the Dork Forest”, my second one should be “Why I Never Left the Dork Forest”. In a word, people. I love my fellow re-enactors. It truly is a family community. My group is the 5th Kentucky Infantry CSA and my husband & I are a part of Company E. The companies are divided up in regions of the state. Our company is out of Morehead, Ky. We are a close knit company and do many activities together when there isn’t an event. If you are looking for a group to join, make sure it is a “main stream” group. Otherwise, you will be dressing like a man and sleeping on the ground, under the stars. That’s not my idea of fun.

WHY CAN’T I HUSH ABOUT RE-ENACTING?

WHY CAN’T I HUSH ABOUT RE-ENACTING?

Written by Honeyhush

This first article should be entitled “Why I Entered the Dork Forest“. I am one of those Civil War re-enactors. My husband had moved me back home to KY, from FL and we were bored. In FL, we had been very active. We were always going to the beach, theme parks, flea markets or out w/ friends. We got to KY and were living out in the country and couldn’t find much to do. We both love history, especially the Civil War era so my husband started looking online for local re-enacting groups. I thought the man had lost his mind! Reading about the Civil War is one thing, but actually pretending and playing dress up is quite another. I thought he probably wouldn’t find a group close to us or he would forget about it. Surely, the man wasn’t serious.
