Great Find: The Birthday Interview

Written by Samantha

If I’ve learned one thing from being a parent it’s that time really does fly. You can’t imagine ever forgetting the way your 3 year old sounds when he laughs or his funny little mispronunciations. But- you probably will. You mean to pull the video camera out but for most of us- life gets in the way. If only they would stay little forever.

Practically Perfect Pizza

By Jeff

Growing up in Wisconsin and spending many summer days in Chicago, I never gave pizza a second thought. Oh, I ate it as much as I could. I just never thought much about it. When my wife and I moved to Los Angeles in 1980 we found out that the life we left behind meant pizza as well. We spent the last 30 years searching the Los Angeles area for the pizza we loved and left in the Midwest. Oh, we flirted with some pizza in LA but we ended up ordering frozen pizzas from Chicago and making the annual trek back to Chicago and Wisconsin to see family and to get some real pizza.

Diary of A Pregnant Woman

Written by Pregnant Polly

As you may have surmised from the not so mysterious name- I’m pregnant. My hormones are a little, shall we say…….. unpredictable. The brunt of which is inflicted upon my poor husband daily. I didn’t experience these hormonal mood changes (outbursts!) with our first child so this is completely new to me (and him). The first major “incident” came about a week ago. Allow me to set the scene.

Merry Christmas Bus Driver

By Kimberly

A few years ago (2006) I was having a rough Christmas. I was so surprised about a kind gesture from a bus driver that I was inspired to write a Christmas poem about it.

Keeping Christmas Simple

By Ann

Every Christmas I begin the season with good intentions to keep our Christmas simple. Every year I fail. As Thanksgiving approaches, I start hinting to my family that we will be cutting back this year. I promise myself that I won’t make too many cookies, I won’t make the gingerbread house, and I’ll keep spending under control. I start the season making a modest gift list to guide my shopping. Yet, as Christmas nears, my inner Santa Claus starts to panic. I bake and freeze “just one more type” of Christmas cookie, so that no one misses one of his favorites. By December 22nd, I waste an evening struggling to put the gingerbread house together. Our beautiful pile of gifts turns into a mountain of excess. Sigh! Will this year be any different?

Do you shop on Black Friday?

By Lily

Are you one of those who arise before the sun to hit the sales? I used to. It was fun, but it was years ago. My mother, sister and I would be there waiting for the doors to open at our favorite store. I think it was some surgery that caused me to initially stop going with them, but they kept going years after I considered it fun. I know when I was working mom, it was a convenient way to get most of the gifts all at once.
