Top 5 Favorite Sitcoms

By Lily

I love a good sitcom but I am a bit of snob. I want them to be well acted with great writing so I can enjoy and let my mind completely relax. I know that’s a lot to expect from a half hour of television. I have missed some great series by automatically dismissing them for a preconceived notion. I never watched Frasier or Will and Grace until I was put on bed rest during my last pregnancy. I discovered what I had been missing when I would leave the TV on after some other show.

I had never bothered to watch Frasier because I knew Kelsey Grammer couldn’t follow Cheers. I remember seeing tabloid headlines claiming there was arguing over how much of a part the dog played. I thought the show must be incredibly stupid and tuned it out. I can’t believe I deprived myself of David Hyde Pierce all those years. He’s fantastic. The writing on some of the shows is pure genius.

I had also completely ignored Everybody Loves Raymond. I was helping my mother out after some surgery and she watched it a couple of times each day. I had no idea that Doris Roberts or Peter Boyle were in it. I have always liked both of them. Now, I like to watch it every day.

I like to watch the reruns of these shows because they’re just want I want them to be. I can really relax when I sit down to watch them. I do like Everybody Loves Raymond, but it’s not in my top five. Frasier is up there near the top. What are the top five sitcoms that you will never get tired of watching?

KATE GOSSELIN SPEAKS OF MOTHERHOOD, HER NEW BOOK AND LIFE AS A SINGLE MOM ON TOGINET RADIO’S LIVING THE DREAM MOMS

Popular Radio Hosts Nina Frye and Cindi Schmitzer Talk with Kate Gosselin about Motherhood in the Spotlight

Sparta, NJ-July 2- 2010-Kate Gosselin, dishes about her new book I Just Want You to Know: Letters to My Kids on Love, Faith, and Family with hosts Nina Frye and Cindi Schmitzer, of the newly popular on-line talk radio show Living the Dream Moms, on Thursday, July 8th, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. EST.

Frye, a mother of three children, began her career as a radio personality after launching her t-shirt company LTDchix in 2006. Filling a void in themed t-shirts for motherhood, the company offers slogans and illustrations reflecting the everyday life of a mom. Frye’s partner Schmitzer, a mother of four children and previous Corporate Financial Analyst with Playtex, joined Frye in offering Gosselin their LAUNDRY and MINIVAN Mom t-shirts as a gift in 2008. In January of 2009, LTDchix spotted an episode of Jon and Kate Plus Eight on the TLC network, in which Kate was featured wearing the gifted shirt. Gosselin’s appearance garnered a significant increase in online traffic to the LTDchix online store, and provided an opportunity for the company’s radio show Living the Dream Moms to gain momentum.

As fans, followers and fellow mothers of Gosselin’s, Frye and Schmitzer now aim to provide an opportunity for the famous mom, to share her thoughts on being the newly single mother of eight children, a three time published author (with books featured on the New York Times Best Sellers list), and being an organizational guru.

Gosselin’s new book I Just Want You to Know: Letters to My Kids on Love, Faith, and Family reflects the journey of Gosselin’s family from relatively unknown to superstar status, within the three year period of TLC’s documentary reality show on her family’s life. The lighthearted interview with Frye and Schmitzer, will focus on Gosselin’s new show special Kate Plus Eight, airing Sunday July 11, 2010 at 9/8 C on the TLC network, and touch on the shared parenting experiences of mothers.

Frye and Schmitzer’s LTDchix has been featured as one of the Top 100 Home Based Businesses by Startupnation.com.

Frye and Schmitzer have been featured on the Oprah radio network with Jane Chatsky, and will air Gosselin’s live interview exclusively on Toginet.com-the premiere online talk radio production company for serious hosts with quality shows.

By Lily

When I was very young, my mother’s friend gave her a recipe for lasagna. Starting at age 18, I began making it myself and followed the recipe strictly (I thought). Therefore, I was surprised that every time I made it, I set the oven on fire. My mother’s lasagna did not cause flames to leap out the oven door! One of the fires occurred when I made an ambitious double-batch. Somehow, I always forgot about the previous fire until the next one happened. I finally caught on to use a little less sauce and a catch-pan.

I also remember killing a big batch of portabella mushrooms many years ago. A family member had served them grilled. They were so delicious. We decided to grill out the next day and I would fix some. My host had informed me that she used soy sauce as a marinade and grilled them a few minutes. Not realizing she had just brushed the sauce on, I thought I would let them soak awhile. I filled a shallow pan with soy sauce and put them in. After awhile, they soaked it all up, so I added some more. As you can imagine, they ended up as nasty sponges that tasted of nothing but hot soy sauce.

Then there’s the time I was pregnant and craving chocolate malts. I arrived at my parent’s home already craving one. I went to whip up a malt in the blender right away. I almost threw-up when I gulped a big drink and discovered I had grabbed the buttermilk.

There are more, but these are some of the more memorable of my food preparation disasters. I would love to hear some of yours. Imperfect cooking makes for a good story.

Memorial Day is about more than cookouts and beer, and kicking off summer - how will you celebrate?

By Jennie

For many Americans, Memorial Day symbolizes the unofficial kickoff of summer – a holiday to fire up the grill, put on some baseball, and break out the white shoes (should you care about such fashion rules). Of course, as the name implies, Memorial Day has another, more solemn, purpose – to honor U.S. soldiers who have died in the service of their country.

Memorial Day was first celebrated in 1866 and meant to honor Union soldiers who’d died in the Civil War. I actually have a relative who died in the Battle of Shiloh (the only ancestor of mine whom I’m aware of having died in a war) – my maternal grandfather’s uncle, who was just seventeen when he died. I can’t pretend to feel a great kinship to a relative who died more than 100 years before I was born, but realizing that the holiday was first enacted in response to the great loss of life in the Civil War reminded me that I should take a moment to reflect on the reason for the day off. I plan to grill hamburgers for lunch (hoping for some sunshine!), but I also plan to observe the 3:00 p.m. moment of remembrance in honor of all of our war dead.

What are your plans?
