THE ICARUS PROJECT

This past week, I read a piece in Newsweek on “Mad Pride” (link: http://www.newsweek.com/id/195694). The article dealt with a group started in New York in 2005, called the Icarus Project. They are dedicated to advancing the notion that mental health diagnoses do not need to be viewed as illnesses that must be treated or cured. I came away from the article with ambivalent feelings.
