Crazy Nail Trends

Crazy Nail Trends

By Pam

There are several new trends out this past year in the world of nails and I am wondering if any of you have experienced these first hand.

This has recently been spotted on Serena Williams. Do you think this is tacky? Would you wear this to a holiday party?

Lace Nails

To achieve this look, lace is applied to the nail with a brush-on adhesive and then sealed with that same adhesive. The nails are then sprayed with a quick-dry glue, filed, then encased in gels.

It is one of the hottest nail trends in Hollywood. These are shrink wrap-like appliques with intricate patterns and mirrored silver or gold finishes. They must be applied in a salon using a special light but they take a quarter of the time a manicure with polish takes and they do not chip or smudge. This one pictured is their Christmas Lights applique. To learn more about this product go to Minxnails.com.

What do you think about these new nail trends? Have you ever tried any crazy nail trends?

  1. I don’t think the rhinestone manicure or the lace nails are for me, but I am sure some women can pull them off!

I would definitely try the Minx Wrap. I basically stopped getting manicures because I was constantly chipping the polish within hours of leaving the salon. This sounds like it might be a solution to that problem.

I’ll be interested to hear if anyone else has tried the Minx technique…

  2. Nails are one thing I’m a girly girl about. I like them. But, I don’t like them too long. The one w/Christmas lights is pretty, but I consider the nail itself a tad too long. I used to go and have them done, but then I preferred to do it myself.
I haven’t done mine forever but was thinking of doing them for the holidays. Before my last one was born, I never went anywhere w/my nails being perfect. I just don’t do them anymore. I liked to do mine in a shiny black polish and then I would use a light adhesive and put on different foil colors in whatever shape they stuck and then lacquer. A french manicure never looks right on me and I don’t care for the look as much as I do flashy ones. I like all the ones above, except that’s too may rhinestones all at once. Maybe for New Years, but that would be it and would prefer something else.

  3. Yeah, the Minx example is the only one I see as more pretty than tacky (too long to be practical for me, though).

I keep my nails decently shaped (I cannot stand to have a nail with a snag in it or one that’s uneven), but otherwise my fingernails are not one of my best features these days. They are really weak and they crack and peel. I try to keep clear polish on them just to protect them a bit, but even that peels off really easily. Maybe I should think about getting fake nails just to cover them up (I probably haven’t had them done with acrylic nails in 10 years or more).

  4. Actually, if I understood it right, the Minx is a wrap that goes over your own nail just like you would polish it. So it would be the length that you would normally wear your nails.

  5. I’m too plain for these styles. The flashiest I get is a french manicure- and to be honest I prefer an American manicure bc the French shows every little scratch and they look pathetic within three days.

  6. I love them all!

I used to get my nails done religiously every week (or at the very least every other week), but then my grandson came along and I haven’t had even a regular manicure in four years now!
If I go back to it though, I’ll try them all!
Mostly I would have them do a vee French manicure (opposite though, white nails/pink tips and a rhinestone in the vee) but sometimes I’d change it up and I used to do green nails for St. Patrick’s Day and pale yellow nails for Easter, I guess I’m getting crazy in my old age, I want pure white/gray hair and I’d like a streak of baby blue or baby pink in it! And then I’d paint my nails to match!

Great story! Makes me want to grow my nails again!

  7. Eileen,

You are too funny with the streak of baby pink in white/gray hair. Be careful what you wish for! ;)

I have not had my nails done in years either but I would like the Minx wrap.

    Pam@IW says:
  8. Wow, Lily, I would love to have seen your nails back in the day! :-)

Eileen, I remember bonding with you back in the GDNNOP days when you talked about dyeing your hair. I like the idea of white with a subtle streak of pink or blue in it!

    Anya@IW says:
  9. The rhinestone one is tacky? Seriously?! I normally don’t even like bling (like those more-tacky sunglasses the size of a chimps face), but those are danged cool. I love lace too. The holiday one is the tacky one to me, but in a different style I’d do it.
