The rumors have been swirling all week, but with a new item in the Washington Post, it is looking increasingly likely that Kate Gosselin just might be a participant in upcoming season of “Dancing with the Stars.”
I am certainly not going to lay down any bets until the actual cast is revealed – apparently in dribbles – on Monday’s night’s finale of “The Bachelor.” (It times like these that I am so thankful to be on the west coast. I’ll get the word “early” without having to suffer through “The Bachelor”!)
During the week of rumors, I have been paying close attention to other interesting facts:
-Jon is back in PA. Jon was seen at the house on Sunday and Friday and he picked up the kids on Monday. Looks like he was close by the whole week. Not his typical pattern of the last couple of months. Maybe settling the lawsuit has lifted some of the stress on the family (hopefully). Maybe he is ready to take on a more active role as a parent should Kate be gone for the next XX number of weeks?
-No sign of Kate. Usually, we can count on at least one shot of her picking up her mail from the UPS store, heading to the nail shop or stocking up at Target. Not this week. Hmm. Could she be in Los Angeles? Or maybe holed up in a dance studio? Obviously, I have no idea, but it’s fun to speculate!
-TLC revived its “Jon & Kate Plus 8″ fan page on Facebook with the first new post in months…Kate is scheduled to be on “The View” a week before “Dancing with the Stars” premieres…Kate has been wearing high heels (!) all winter – what mom does that? (Ok, obviously, you can take this speculation thing a little too far).
I have a lot of thoughts on this, but it is probably best to wait to see if it comes to pass. I do want to say one thing regardless of whether this rumor comes true or not — Kate is certainly a big enough “star” (whatever that word means) to be on this show. How many of you had heard of Joanna Krupa, Ashley Hamilton, Ty Murray, Albert Reed or Sabrina Bryan and considered them stars before they appeared on the show? Kate has two things that make a reality-TV executive salivate 1) name recognition with the general viewing public and 2) a built-in audience of woman who love OR hate her.
So, are you a regular watcher of “DWTS”? What do you think about Kate potentially being on the show? Do you think she will make an early exit or do you think she is a hard worker (like a Kelly Osbourne) and may stick around longer than one might think? Who would you like to see her paired with?

I watched for the first time last year. I would watch if Kate is on- but I have to say I don’t know if I see her going very far. Maybe she will surprise me.
I don’t watch DWTS and I am kind of out of the loop posting on the Gosselins although I do still read and follow the news. I would watch this program just to see how Kate does. I would also root for her to win although I agree with Samantha that she probably would not go far.
How long is someone involved with this program if they do well? 2 or 3 months?

LOS ANGELES — Lisa Stanley, co-host and entertainment reporter of KEARTH 101’s morning show in Los Angeles, has learned that Kate Gosselin is under a shroud of security at the Beverly Wilshire Four Seasons Hotel, rehearsing her dance steps in her suite with no children to be seen. I love DWTS! I will watch & cheer on who ever ends up being casted. I think Kate might surprise w/her talent. The haters might faint though, maybe that’s reason enough to have her be on DWTS….
I have seen clips, like when Marie Osmond fainted but I don’t watch DWTS. I wanted to see it when Cloris Leachman was on but I never caught it. I remember some comments on GDNNOP that she was raunchy and bawdy. I love her.
Thanks for the link Pam, I am so excited for Kate. It seems that this is true. I am going to be disappointed if it’s not. I will definitely be watching to see how Kate does. It’s a gutsy thing for her to take on and strenuous too. I wish her the best of luck.
Anya, Except for Kelly Osbourne, I don’t know any of the people you listed. I agree Kate is a big enough star for this show. There’s all kinds of celebrities. Kate had a show, wrote some books and people like her. She’s a star.
It’s a shame for Jon, he blew his opportunities. He has a mighty task in front of him to be ever considered anything more than a joke about bad dads. He came off jealous of Kate when she was on The View (the dogs video). I wonder how he’s doing. I hope he’s doing better than he was and has come to terms w/some things. It appears he has calmed down on chasing women. So that’s a good thing.
I so hope this is true. I think it would be good for them to have her on because she does have quite a “following”. And, yes, she is a bigger celebrity than a lot of the people they have had on the show. I have no idea if she will be any good, but I think she will work hard. I think a lot of the haters will vote for her because it will be more fun for them to have her around awhile to make fun of. I’ve only ever watched parts of a couple of seasons, but I’d watch her (and vote,too). She’ll look fabulous, anyway.
What is TWoP going to do with the DWTS thread, though? I bet it’ll get shut down a time or two.
(Have you all heard that Marie Osmond’s son committed suicide? So very sad, as was Andrew Koenig’s death.)
I did hear about Marie Osmond’s son and that is so very sad. As was Andrew Koenig. Depression is a hard thing to treat for some people. Lots of meds out there and you just need to find the right ones along with a good therapist. My prayers are with both of these families.
I will have to watch DWTS now. Like Lily, I still haven’t heard of any of the celebrities except Kelly Osbourne.

Just to answer the question about how long Kate might be away/commuting back and forth from CA and PA.
Everything I have read indicates the show will start March 22.
At least one star will be eliminated every week, although if memory serves me correct, sometimes they do a double eviction.
The rumors indicate this year’s cast will be smaller than previous seasons. Typically, there might be anywhere from 13-16 celebrities. This year, it might be as few as 10.
The show will probably go until May sweeps – late-ish May.
How long Kate stays depends on a lot of factors. It is a given there will be a few standouts (who have previous dancing training) who will be in the running for the top prize all season. These stars are fun to watch because they are actually good dancers. Think Mya and Donny Osmond from last season.
Kate would be in the second tier, I would think. If she makes it half-way through the competition based on hard work and fan support, I think that would be great. Remember, the scores on DWTS are computed 50/50 based on the judges scores and the fans voting.
We will have to wait and see…..

Shelly, I don’t understand your reasoning. There’s no way that going on DWTS makes her a dead-beat mother, a loser, or liar. I hope all the stars who appear on this show love their children but I wouldn’t infer that they didn’t because they do a dancing show. From what little I have seen, it’s very hard work. I’m sure they pay well. It’s great exposure and will probably help book sales. Competing in DWTS could be a good example for her children.

I’m thinking this indicates Kate is not going to have a book tour similar to Multiple Blessings and Eight Little Faces. W/DWTS and a new show sometime, her tour is probably going to be smaller, if she does one at all.
Kiki, I saw that about Marie Osmond’s son (I have always liked her). Just heartbreaking for someone so young to be unnecessarily gone. Very tragic.
I always watch DWTS. There are ususally a celeb in the older age bracket, a big football/basketball player, another sports figure, a much younger contestant, etc. Some of the celebs stay on much longer than they should just because they have a big fan base and some head home too early because they don’t. It’s always fun to see someone that you never thought could do it succeed. Kelly Osborne was a total surprise. Louis Vito and Appolo Ohno were both very good and Ohno actually won.
Steve Wozniak was terrible but all the kids kept voting him to stay. So it might be that the kids that have so much fun baiting the haters will vote like crazy just to keep Kate on. I think she’ll do well since she is such a hard worker.
A lot of the celebs are doing other things while they are on the show. Donny Osmond was appearing in Vegas during his DWTS season so I think they’ll be able to work with a very busy. mom. She’ll be paired with one of the taller dancers so it could be Max. They might do that hoping for drama since some celebs have clashed with him in the past. Gosh it just strikes me that I’m obsessed with DWTS. Oh dear.
I think it is a great idea for Kate. Can’t wait to find out. I will watch if she is on. I enjoy the show but don’t always watch it due to my work schedule. If the rumour is true , Kate probably worked out some type of deal/ schedule that she will still be home with the children as much as possible. Who knows maybe they fly her partner to Pa for practice and then when she appears she will fly out for that episode.
Lily I agree with your comment that it will be a good example for the children in many areas. It will show hard work , competition, and to take risks, and believe in yourself. Pretty good lessons to pass on to any child.
I watch the show every year and will definitely watch and vote for Kate no matter how bad she is, up to a point that is just to keep her on the show for more than 2 weeks. Gwop’ers will be having fits and that will be interesting to see all the boycotts of the show they will call for.
So sad to hear about Marie Osmond’s son. She must be devastated. My prayers for her and her family.
I always have to laugh about Gwop’ers *dedication* to a woman that they allegedly despise. If they put as much energy (as they do bad mouthing Kate) into things that truly matter, our world might be a better place!
I’ve never watched DWTS but I will have to if Kate is on. I’m not sure how well she can dance but she has a great sense of humor and is usually pretty witty.
Why is it ok for Jon to be gone for extended periods of time but the minute its Kate everyone jumps all over her? I just do not understand that reasoning, she isn’t leaving her kids at home with strangers, they are with their father.
Well DWTS always has an episode where all the kids and/or husband come running into the practice studio to inspire their mom/dad. If you want to see +8 should vote like crazy just long enough for the kids visit.
I am not so sure it may be the best move for her, but I LOVE DWTS and will watch regardless. I think it will be fun for her, if she can take the critiquing, I will just be sad to see all the Kate bashing start up again at full throttle. Right now they are all just content to bash her on Amazon. I think the kids would love to see their mom do it also.

I actually joined a “Save Steve Wozniak” fan page last year. Yeah, in retrospect, that was a little silly! I did like him a lot, however. He was very positive and always tried his best. That’s hard not to root for.
I agree with all your points on Kate and DWTS. If this comes to pass it will be fun to discuss DTWS with you all, even once Kate makes her exit.
I have never watched the show. I don’t like any of the dancing or singing shows. It could be that they are on when I am trying to get ready for the next work/school day. I will have to agree with craftymomof3, doesn’t seem like the best move. The show seems so gimmicky and none of the people on them come out better in the end, career wise that is. I would think a more serious part would be a good move.
I have watched DWTS for several seasons. I stayed away from it at first because it sounded dumb and cheesy but Anya convinced me that it was worth watching. It’s actually a fun show – very positive (well, except for the judges comments – specifically Len’s – sometimes), and the dances are cool (especially the Latin dances – the slow waltzes can be a bit boring).
I’m not sure how Kate will do (if she is actually on the show) – she’s said she can’t dance and that sort of dovetails with the way I see her. But she is competitive and determined, I think – she won’t be one of those contestants who doesn’t try or doesn’t go all out; at least I don’t think so. This could be fun!

I think this is a GREAT move for Kate. She HAS to use her celebrity now, in order to continue to support her family. I just don’t believe that Jon is going to be able to get his act together to do it, and he’s not popular enough, or well-spoken enough to translate his “celebrity” as well as Kate can.
I recognize there are many out there who believe that Kate should just go back to work as a nurse, but really, what hospital or Doctor’s office would hire a woman to work for them who gets constantly hounded by photographers, and would probably get hateful phone calls at work. Not only would that be a distraction, but the photographers would violate HIPPA in a major way. Unfortunately, she would be too much of a liability at this point.
Kate should just keep doing her “thing” with her head held as high as it has been. Good for her.

Disgrace? Not sure I understand why anyone thinks that. What wouldn’t she be doing if she loved her kids? She is trying to earn a living that will pay well enough to keep the 8 children in the nice home they are in now and in the excellent private school they attend where they have friends. She is not doing anything illegal or immoral. She is writing the type of books other parents have written without criticism. She is going on a television show that plenty of mothers with young children have been on without criticism.
As for being a loser, I will save that condemnation for able body people who are unwilling to go out and support themselves and their families.

I see that some people are saying that Kate doesn’t know that DWTS is just “using her” to get ratings. How awful that someone who wants to be in the entertainment business is considered a ratings getter! If they didn’t want people to watch they would have me on the show.
I haven’t watched DWTS in a while but I’ll definitely tune in to see Kate dance. I’m with Samantha though, for some reason I don’t see her going too far. Why do I think she has two left feet? I hope she proves me wrong!
I just read the news that Kate is going to be on DWTS and I’m positively giddy with excitement. I have watched DWTS since the first show and it’s one of my all time favorites and one of the very few reality shows I watch. Now I get to watch a favorite show with a celeb I really like and vote for her and just have a good ole’ time. I wouldn’t hazard a guess how well she’ll do, but she’ll be a hoot in the interviews. And considering that she hasn’t cracked with the constant GWoP attacks I’ll bet she stands up to the judges just fine.
Once again I’m appalled at the comments from Shelley. How does being on DWTS prove she’s a liar? Did she ever promise she would never be on this show? If she did I missed it. In what way is she a deadbeat? She’s paying her own bills, she isn’t on public assistance, so how is she a deadbeat? And being asked to be on DWTS sort of negates the loser tag, doesn’t it? It’s actually considered something of an honor to be asked. Granted, it’s more a B list roster, but still, it isn’t C or D list. Not a loser in my book. And how does being on a perfectly wholesopme family show proves she doesn’t love her kids? She’s working to support them, that demonstrates love in my book. DWTS is not the kind of show where they try to make the celebrities look like jerks. Occasionally, they will show a little tension between the celeb and pro in practice. And sometimes celebrities say things in the backstage interviews about their scores that make them look mildly bad (Shannon Elizabeth comes to mind). But when Warren Sapp was on the show a couple of seasons ago, he was portrayed in glowing terms on the show, in spite of there being many published reports that he was a real ass off-camera – rude and prima-donnaish.
Now, part of Kate’s rep is as a control freak, so they may find ways to play that up a bit. But the idea that there is some big conspiracy to keep “the true Kate” from coming out is ludicrous. It’s a dancing show. They really keep the interpersonal drama to a minimum.
Personally, I think it’s great if Kate can be with her kids during most of the week. I know there have been times when the dancers have traveled to rehearse with the stars where they were when necessary.

I agree Ann, and it’s this thick skin that allows her humor to come out and allows her to make fun of herself. It also allows her to grow, experience new challenges and evolve herself and her family in ways the naysayers never will because they just can’t grasp that people grow and nurture each day.

Congratulations to Kate for being selected for DWTS. I will be watching the show this season because she is on it and I think DWTS knew what they were doing when the made that selection. I hope she has fun and that it helps her career.

Still don’t understand why some people are so insecure in their opinions that they can’t just say “I don’t like/want to watch Kate Gosselin” but instead must claim that “the public” or “everyone” feels that way. I don’t get why some women hate Kate Gosselin so much, but it’s still sad to me that they can’t just own that opinion without trying to drag all of America or the rest of the viewing public into to bolster their POV. I’m sure that has a lot to do with it Jennie. It’s easy for lazy people to sit behind a keyboard and write nonsense and worse about someone they don’t even know just because they are jealous of that person.
And that’s just it…insecurity and laziness is what makes a jealous person. It’s very sad that there are these bitter women around.

The same people that are Kate’s detractors would prob be thrilled if it was Jon on the show. It’s sickening how they want the kids to love one more parent than the other. I’m sure they will be having hissy fits if they show the kids in one of the segments. They don’t have any right to interfere in the lives of these children. If anything, they are the danger they talk about when showing your life to the public. Anya, I agree they keep publicity going for Kate. They used to say that they would leave Kate alone if the show was stopped. Ha! It’s always some thin excuse to keep their hobby going. Hi to new posters! Also, to some I haven’t seen awhile. Good to see you! Did everyone see Erin’s interview w/one of the winners from the Biggest Loser? It’s really good and has some interesting details about the show.
I am so exicited for Kate!! I watched the interviews on Jimmy Kimmel and on ABC this morning, I see a more relaxed and confident Kate. She looks wonderful and so fit. Looks like her dancing partner will be going to PA which I stated in my first post when we were all speculating.
