I of course have used tinsel to decorate my Christmas tree every December but I will have to admit that I have never thought about using it to decorate my head. The newest trend in the hair industry is called hair tinsel or Bling Highlights and Beyonce was seen sporting these at the 2010 Grammy Awards. This type of hair tinsel can also be purchased at Hair Flairs.
These extensions adds shine to your hair by tying fine strands of sparkly colored tinsel to your own strands. You pick the color that you want and then a stylist will attach each strand by tying it in little knots to your hair strand. This process does not take long and can last in your hair anywhere from two to four weeks. Apparently you can wash your hair and use a hair dryer, curling iron or flat iron as your normally would.
My research shows that most stylists will charge from two to four dollars per strand but there are videos on You Tube to teach you the proper technique so that you can do it yourself. Prices vary depending on the length of the strand. Short strands run about $4.95 for a pack of 20. Personally, I am too old for these but I think they are kind of attractive for the younger crowd.
Would you try hair bling? If so, would you wear it just to parties and special events or would you wear it to work?

Actually the picture on this post at the top right is “Hair Flairs” directly from the http://www.HairFlairs.com website. The glittering strands are available on the website and they have a great how-to video! It’s ties into your hair and comes in 20 colors and you can wash, blow-dry, and even flat-iron your hair. It just adds a little sparkle highlight to your everyday look and does not look or feel like Christmas tinsel, which is flat and thin.
Thanks Hair Flairs. I added your link above also.
I feel a little too…what’s a nice word for old?…mature! I feel a little too mature for this. But I do like it – I think it’d be fun if I was younger and going to parties or clubs.
If I were younger, I would definitely do this!
Heck, I’m thinking of going gray and then maybe adding a pink or blue streak to my hair! Maybe I’ll go gray and add Hair Flairs!
Eileen, I think you should do it – you can pull it off for sure!
These are super adorable. I am going to show them to my 18-year-old. It might be a fun thing to let her try for Valentine’s Day.
If you choose a color that is very close to your own, like gold for blondes, or copper for brunettes, they blend in very well and it’s not as noticeable, it just adds a hint of sparkle and glam. Of course, you can go wild too, whatever your thing is. Just like makeup or nails.
I think this is something that would be a lot of fun especially for the younger crowd. I would try these for myself around the holidays or even for the 4th of July. I would like to see the reaction of my sons.
They look really neat, I even watched the video. Not sure I would ever have an occasion to use them but I could see younger ladies using them at the clubs
I see this as something for teens or very young women. I’m sure our six year old would love the sparkles but I would feel ridiculous with these! It seems either very young or very clubbish I guess. How boring am I?
The new hair bling for 2010. I have used the hair tinsel before sometimes called hair shimmers. They are so much fun for any age. I found another great site that has this new product. http://www.caliglimmers.com
