And then there were three: Erin Andrews, Evan Lysacek and Nicole Scherzinger will put on their dancing shoes for the final time this week as they compete to take home the hiddeously tacky Mirror Ball Trophy.
Monday’s performance show will be comprised of two dances – one a “redemption dance” chosen by the judges. This will be a dance that the stars performed before, but didn’t do their best on. (Good luck finding something for Nicole). The second performance will be free style baby! ABC is promising that this pup will clock in at an hour, which leads me to think we won’t see much of the ousted stars on Monday.
That’s ok, Tuesday night is two hours and is sure to be filled with lots of, uh, filler! The good news is we should see a lot of Kate, Pamela, Shannen, Niecy, etc. Each star will reportedly dance one final dance. Hopefully they all will enjoy themselves without the pressure of dancing for votes.
I remain an Erin girl, but would be happy with an Evan win too. I will be less pleased with Nicole taking the trophy, but there is no denying her talent as a dancer and I know there are a lot of Derek Hough fans.
It’s been a fun season and even more enjoyable by watching it with you all. Please stop by over the next few days and share your thoughts about the final three, the season in general, and anything DWTS-related.

Anya=I have the same preference on the winner. I have nothing against Nicole and Derek is a marvelous dancer & extremely likeable. However, the fact that Nicole may not have had professional ballroom dancing training does not make her any less a professional singer/dancer. True, Evan has experience in learning choreography, but I’ll agree there is a substantive difference between solo ice skating and ballroom dancing & he is a very engaging person. Erin is what DTWS is supposed to be about, a genuine amateur who has come amazingly far, especially despite all that she’s had to go through with her stalkers.
I agree with both of you about Erin, Evan and Nicole. I have to work tonite so I won’t see the show until tomorrow so I am counting on you ladies to fill me in a bit so I can get some votes in.
PeggyP says…Erin is what DTWS is supposed to be about, a genuine amateur who has come amazingly far, especially despite all that she’s had to go through with her stalkers.
ITA.
Diane, I am on the west coast. If no one weighs in before, I’ll be sure to post before I go to bed.
I, too would like to see Evan win but would not be upset if Erin takes the trophy. I just don’t want to see Nicole win.
Looking forward to whatever they have planned for tomorrow night’s show. Not quite sure how Vienna got in the mix, though……..I’m not a fan of her and Jake so could do without that. Sounds like they’ve got something crazy planned for Kate……..flying??? HUH??? I don’t care, as long as she’s safe and has a good time.
Well, it was a little bit of a strange night.
First of all, I didn’t think we were ever going to get to see Kate (or any of the other stars) because every time there was a free moment, the camera panned to Ally, the new bachelorette, looking blond and perky in the audience. Sorry, not interested. I want to see Kate. And Chad. Even Pam!
The judges scores (combined):
Erin: 55
Evan: 52
Nicole: 55
Good news – Erin managed to tie with Nicole. Bad news - there was silly editing that had Evan and Anna disagreeing about their dance and Anna crying. Then their freestyle was (under) scored at 24, for reasons not totally clear to me.
It wasn’t Nicole’s best night, but still she managed to look like a pro. Still, she bores me.
I think Evan got a raw deal.
Erin was basically the Erin we love and managed to exceed expectations. I do think the freestyle dance that Maks choreographed was overproduced (a bed and a couch?), but Erin was fantastic.
In other news, any one else have trouble voting on ABC.com?
Yeah, this was kind of disappointing for the final night of competition – the dances were a little blah overall, I thought. I’m rooting for Erin all the way, though I’d be happy with Evan, too. Not sure how much his relatively low scores will hurt him, though – I don’t really understand how the viewer votes are weighted against the judges’ scores.
I’m sad that DWTS is over again already! I guess it’ll be back in…September or around there?
Thanks for the update, Anya. I did see some footage of the dances on E Online. I have to admit I have not watched since Kate left and even then I just watched parts of the show. I mostly just follow here and read a little on the internet. I have never been a DWTS or AI fan.
On another note, I watched the series finale of 24 tonight. That is another show that I stopped watching several years back but my husband was a loyal fan until the bitter end. He is excited about the prospect of a movie. I enjoyed the finale tonight but really felt like I had not missed several seasons, LOL. It was the same 24 from the last eight seasons. I am just glad that we have Jack Bauer on our side. I read somewhere that 24 was the shortest series in the history of TV—it just lasted 8 days.
I’ll be watching tonight. I want to see Kate on the finale of DWTS for sure. I didn’t see her on ET, I don’t want to miss her last dance. Good Luck Kate!
i just got done watching the show I thought Erin did fab and Even did well his first dance. Still not feeling the love for Nicole but it is what it is. But I am looking foward to seeing all of them again. It sounds like Kate is going first which is good since I did not sleep well last nite (: Thanks for the update Anya in my not being able to sleep I came out to the computer to see your comments
I’m know I am in the minority(maybe even alone), but I like Nicole, and wouldn’t mind if she won. I like all three of the finalists. I don’t think Nicole’s experience is any more of a factor than Evan’s. Whatever strutting she does on stage with the Pussycat Dolls doesn’t compare to the dancing she has learned. I think they are all wonderful, and have been fun to watch
. I’m going to miss it.
Dang, I fell asleep and didn’t turn it on til 9:10. I have no idea what I missed. Buzz was just so cute. Going for the tea to wake back up.
Oh good, I see didn’t miss Kate.
I missed last night and some of tonight. Buzz was cute. I am looking forward to Pam and Kate.
Bummer! Erin was eliminated.
Go Evan! Go Evan!
Theresa says…Bummer! Erin was eliminated.
Ugh.
Yes, go Evan!
i am sad for erin…she really is the epitome of what i think dwts should be. she rose from no experience to be a huge competitor.
since it’s between evan and nicole i guess i’d vote for evan but think nicole is the better dancer. nicole seems a little sure of herself in some of her actions off the dance floor.
I am not a good napper and am still groggy. Nice to see Kate again. I couldn’t tell she was on a lift at the end because of the camera being right on her face. It took a moment to realize what that was.
I was kind of hoping for Erin to win too. I wanted to see Niecy, I guess I missed her.
Oh baby, Tina Turner can wake anyone up.
I feel bad for Evan and Anna to dance after Nicole and Derek. But I really enjoyed Nicole and Derek’s dance. I think Derek does such a great job. I don’t know if he picks their music, but he does an amazing job choreographing their dances.
I couldn’t have chosen between Evan and Nicole. They were both amazing. Fun season!
I was disappointed for Evan. Congrats to Nicole!
Wendy, Ita, they were both amazing.
That was fun.
Ok, thanks for the updates, everyone.
Even though I wanted Erin or Evan, congrats to Nicole. I will still check it out, but may FF!
Nicole didn’t seem to be anyone’s favorite, but she grew on me and I thought she deserved to win.
Erin disappointed me a little bit by trying to garner sympathy for the stalking incident. It’s not as if EVERYONE is not quite aware of it. Flame away at me on this one, I thought it was inappropriate.
Kate? Well, what is there to say? She tried? No, not really. I think she could have learned something while on this show, but she let the opportunity slip by. I thought it was just weird when she up on the lift. I did NOT approve of people laughing at her though, that was rude.
I’m sure Kate can’t wait to get home and do what she does best. Be a mom to those eight precious children.
Skeptic Lady-I’m sorry but I have to completely disagree with you.
With Erin, it wasn’t just the one incident, IIRR, there was another obsessed fan while DTWS was under ay. It’s been a major trauma in her life for the last year & it wouldn’t have mades sense to ignore it.
I think Kate not only did try, she tried hard (she pulled off some pretty difficult moves) but I admire her guts in revisting the paparazzi number over which she received so much abuse. I don’t think anyone was laughing at her. The camera wasn’t on her the whole time. Apparently, the lift was slow in coming down. I got the impression that Kate was doing something while stuck up there to crack people up. It did NOT come across as derisive laughter. She seemed much more relaxed and confident in her skin in both her ET work and on the dance. She did get a standing ovation from the audience and even the judges were smiling and clapping.
Darn it. I wanted Evan to win. I so liked his personality and attitude.
The ending seemed a bit awkward to me with Derek with the trophy up on someone’s shoulders and Nicole trying to stay holding onto it like she didn’t want him to take it from her. And it seemed like people were slow to congratulate her like maybe THEY didn’t even want her to win. Ah, I’m overanalyzing because I’m disappointed Evan didn’t win. I did notice Kate was one of the first people to go up to her, though.
I totally did not think people were laughing at Kate. To me, it looked like she and the other cast members had a good relationship and they were enjoying her antics. She did a good job of plugging her shows.
i am sad for erin…she really is the epitome of what i think dwts should be. she rose from no experience to be a huge competitor.-kimmie
Totally agree kimmie. Same with Evan. But Nicole? Puh-leeze! She’s a dancer. Just because she’s a hip hop dancer, she’s still a dancer. Oh well.

Yeah, that looked like a lift malfunction. It looked to me she was trying to make a bad situation (the faulty lift) into something good/joking about it.
I wish Kate did not revive the papparrazzi number. She should’ve done the one where they praised her for dancing better. Although, she was definitely more playful and strutting than she ever was. She let loose and it looked like she had fun. I liked that she got a standing O and with the judges enjoying the performance.
I thought Niecy and Pamela’s performances were good. I like Brooke’s quip, “that’s Pamela” (or something to that effect) when asked a question and Pam replied back in typical Pam Anderson sex kitten innuendo.
I really think Brooke Burke did a fantastic job. Glad she’s the co-host. She holds her own with Tom Bergeron and knows what the contestants are going thru, thus asking the right questions.
I was disappointed that Nicole won if I couldn’t have Erin then Evan would have been my second choice. Here’s my pet peeve and I am sticking to it. Nicole from the young age has been training in dance, acting ,singing classes that is her whole background. I am not saying she is not a great dancer but at the level she is at she should be a teacher not a contestant.
I just had a chance to see Kate’s dance again, it was perfect in my eyes. She knows she will never win any one’sapproval at this point. That is the one personality trait I love about her…if I can’t do well I might as well laugh about it and move on. In the end she was a winner , she learned how to dance, had great publicity, and got to do some interviews with ET, which were very well recieved. So you go Kate! You are and continue to be one smart cookie:)
I guess I don’t understand the big deal about Nicole. I don’t know the exact training she has had. There were interviews with Erin’s childhood dance teachers. Evan has much more athletic training. There is not a level playing field, but I don’t think it is meant to be. I think it is meant to be entertaining, and it was. Otherwise it wouldn’t be fair to have Kate, a young, healthy woman that can run a 5K, competing against a 900 yr old astronaut.
That’s a great point, Wendy. I think Evan had so much training he was at least as “unfair” as Nicole. I didn’t like Nicole for her personality so I was hoping Erin or Evan would win. Erin scored bonus points for me with how improved she was. I think that might have been the difference between Nicole and Erin for many of us. Nicole got 10s (deserved) in the 2nd week. Erin may have had training, but she wasn’t a pro like Nicole, and that was obvious the first time they danced.
Hands down, Nicole was the best dancer and so the win is justified. Any of the final three could have been called the just winner, IMO.
If they had been serious about not using professionals, Erin would have won. Nicole and Evan have both had too much (related) experience to be considered amateurs.
Erin has always sort of lacked feminity. She was always pretty, but not in a glamorous way.
But, OMG, WOW! She was pretty, hot and very sexy on the show. Her dancing improved so much and she was fun to watch.
I think she’s a true winner because she grew and changed from this experience. I’m so proud of her!
Ann and happy.mom, I agree with a lot of what you are saying. Nicole was rather cocky, and it might have been fun to see the look on her face if she had lost
. I think she rubs people the wrong way like Kate does some people. Erin was definitely the most improved, and had a more appealing air about her. If Evan had won, Nicole might have acted like that Russian skater that Evan beat for the gold
. I thoroughly enjoyed Nicole and Derek’s performances, and I don’t know how much that had to do with Derek. Nicole might not have been as much fun if she had been paired with a diva. Chad had improved tremendously at the end, too. I agree with the judges, that this season was exceptional. This group will be a tough act to follow.

I get what you’re saying – every season there are supposed “ringers” and there are several people who don’t have a chance in hell of winning (Steve Wozniak, anyone?). I guess my issue is not so much with “fairness” – it’s a silly reality show; who cares if it’s fair. It’s just with making it entertaining. From the first night, and every week since then, there didn’t seem to be more than a remote chance that Nicole wouldn’t win. The *only* chance was the possibility that Evan might pull it out in votes (as I think Donny Osmond did over Mya, a better dancer, last season). So, besides not hugely warming to Nicole, personally, I just found it less entertaining and suspenseful. If Nicole hadn’t been there, and there’d been a finale with Evan, Erin and Chad – that would’ve been a real competition, and fun to watch.
So, I’m just asking for a little more parity; Olympic athletes and singers or actresses with some dance experience may have an edge, but a singer/dancer who seems to be almost at a pro level from the first dance has too much of one to be fun to watch (for me, at least).
I see what you are saying, Jennie. It was a little surreal to hear the judges go on and on about Nicole being the best dancer they’ve ever had from the beginning.
ITA, Jennie and Weny-And then to assign her to Derek, who is a wonderful dancer, performer, and just so darn cute really seemed to be stacking the deck big time. It comes across like Nicole really would have had to intentionally thrown it to lose. No one denies her talent, but, while the backgrounds of the contestants generally varies, having someone with Nicole’s experience gives her too much of an edge. Even though Evan and, earlier, Kristi Yamuguchi were Olympic champions & knew choreography, they skated in singles, not pairs. The only suspense was that the rest of final four were as competitive as they were.
