Facebook’s now famous co-founder, Eduardo Saverin, renounced his citizenship in the United States last September. Facebook’s Initial Public Offering is set for next week where the popular social media site is expected to have one of the largest IPOs in history. Many experts believe Saverin made a shrewd decision by giving up citizenship well before Facebook hits the stock market.

The Harvard graduate was born in Brazil and moved to the U.S. in 1992 at the age of 10. His father was a successful businessman in Sao Paulo when the family discovered Brazilian gangs had added young Saverin’s name to a kidnap-for-ransom list and they quickly relocated to Miami. The Saverins gained citizenship in 1998. His story of betrayal by Facebook founder and Harvard colleague Mark Zuckerberg was depicted in the award-winning film “The Social Network.” He owns part of Facebook and is worth about a net of $2 billion. He’s listed as number 634 on Forbes’ billionaire’s list. He’s been living in Singapore for the last four years and plans to stay while he invests in companies that are interested in entering the market in Asia.

A rep for Saverin said his decision to forgo his U.S. passport wasn’t because of next week’s IPO but because it made more sense since he plans to live there indefinitely while developing the Asian market. It doesn’t take someone with an MS Taxation to understand why renounced before the IPO takes place. According to the site Who Owns Facebook? Saverin owns a 4% stake and that could amount to an easy $4 billion once the initial offering happens. Having given up his citizenship before the stake realizes the extra worth next week will stop him from having to pay exit taxes on that income since when he gave up his residency here Facebook wasn’t worth what it will be after next week. According to tax professors and experts, this was an astute move on his part.

Saverin could face exits taxes in upwards of $150 million but that’s a much smaller amount than it could be had he kept his citizenship longer. Experts expect a lot of contention over how much Saverin owes the U.S. government but no matter what, he saved himself hundreds of millions by renouncing. Singapore doesn’t enforce a capital gains tax so Saverin could get away without paying taxes on what he earns from Facebook’s IPO.

Despite Saverin’s spokeperson’s claims that he didn’t defriend America for tax reasons, the move has incited anger in many citizens who have posted their sentiments across most major social media platforms. Many feel he owes this country some of that gain since he lived and flourished within our borders.

Apparently Saverin is quite a celebrity in his new home where the media-shy playboy is a constant focus of media attention. Much like our favorite Kardashian family. He’s also one of 1,780 Americans who gave up their citizen status last year. Researchers estimate he’s at least the second billionaire to give up citizenship.

Summer time is a splendid season for a variety of activities: home improvement; exercise; vacation; finishing up back-logged projects; spending time with the family; etc. One activity many people forget about is keeping the kids engaged in educational activities. A child’s mind is a muscle—too much inactivity and it will turn to mush. The last thing you want heading into the new school year is a child that’s done nothing but eat hot pockets and play video games all summer. So, with that said, here are a few ways to keep your children revved for brilliance during those lazy summer months:

Educational games—There are more kinds of games out there than just violent first person shooter video games. There are a number of fun, educational online, software-based and device-based gaming systems that could help your kids prepare for the coming year’s course work, including math games for 4th grade students, online science lectures and a host of others. You should sit down with your kids, search the web and make a list of games that look both educational and fun.

Summer field trips—The summer is a wonderful time to take educational field trips. Go to museums, archeological sites out in nature, space observatories, horticultural exhibits—anything that could ignite your child’s imagination and keep him/her excited to learn. These are the formative years during which your kid could figure what he or she wants to pursue in life. Give them the raw material to work with!

Computer skills—Between social media and online games, you will be hearing plenty of demands for increased computer time during the summer. Make a deal with your kids that if they want to use the computer for recreational gaming and socializing they have to also use it to learn new technology-based skills. Urge your kids to pick up programming skills, video and photo editing skills, the ins and out of different operating systems, etc. There are some great summer camps that teach computer and technology skills to teens and pre-teens.

This is a just a small list of the kinds of educational activities that you can engage your children with this summer. In addition to vacations on the beach, television and Internet games, you should actively encourage—nay, mandate—your kids to stay intellectually engaged for these months so that come time for the new school year, they will be ready to go!

It’s been another busy week for Kate Gosselin. Fresh from her successful speaking engagement raising funds for Camp Barnabas in Missouri Kate returned to the sad news that Royal Caribbean’s “Cruise with Kate” was canceled. It was reported that both the cruise line and Kate agreed on a certain number of cabins booked and they were unable to meet those expectations. Kate emailed those who booked the cruise and expressed her disappointment.

She didn’t have time to stay disappointed for long. The busy mother of eight celebrated her sextuplets birthday on May 10th with a pool party, presents, and cake. Fans tweeted birthday wishes for the sextuplets to Kate, while she shared a bit of the festivities with her followers. Kate baked her traditional two-tiered, chocolate-frosted cake decorated with turtles and butterflies and topped with a candle in the shape of an 8. Mady and Cara presented their brothers with Lego board games, and their little sisters were given American Girl doll clothes that the twins chose from their own collection.

Kate interacted with fans sharing some of their favorite memories of the sextuplets as babies, telling one teen fan, “I wish I remembered those days more…All a blur!”

We would love to wish the sextuplets a belated very Happy Eighth Birthday and many more. What are your favorite memories of the Gosselin six?

Yahoo came under fire over the last few months when it came to light that their recently-hired CEO had some grave inaccuracies on his resume. Scott Thompson had listed a college degree that he never actually earned on all of his public biographies, and Yahoo released him this week, hoping for a boost in credibility.

The internet giant has faced a range of issues as it slowly loses the battle for supremacy to Google, and now the company must try to convince their beleaguered employees and aggravated shareholders that the changes put in place during Thompson’s reign will still reap benefits. It’s a tough pill to swallow, what with Thompson the fourth CEO Yahoo has had in the last five years. Each one promised better things were in store for the company, and each vow proved itself empty. In return, Yahoo’s stock price and revenues have both dropped, while their competitors continue to increase their spending and reach.

Ross Levinsohn will now take over as interim CEO. He’s been successful before, managing a series of internet sevices for Murdoch’s News Corp before he was brought to Yahoo in 2010 by then CEO Carol Bartz. Thompson had replaced Bartz in January, and moved Levinsohn up to oversee Yahoo’s advertising and media services worldwide. Levinsohn went on record in a company-wide memo sent to The Associated Press, in which he attempted to assuage concerns in the market by suggesting a global company such as Yahoo can handle swift and unexpected changes. He will also address the company’s workers as a whole during a meeting Monday afternoon.

In advance of Levinsohn stepping into the CEO post, Yahoo settled with Daniel Loeb, the furious shareholder who first exposed the news about Thompson’s inaccurate degree information. They will remove five members of the board of directors, including Chairman Roy Bostock at his request. Each of them had declared they would step down later this year, but will now relinquish their positions immediately. All of them had been in the group that agreed to hire Thompson, and blame is clearly being placed. Loeb will take one of the vacated positions, as will turnaround specialist Harry Wilson and MTV networks exec Michael Wolf, two of the people on Loeb’s team. The chairman position will be taken by Alfred Amoroso, a long time tech executive who became a board member only three months back.

The first task on the new board’s ledger will be to complete the sale of Yahoo’s 40% stake in the Alibaba Group, a Chinese investment that is considered incredibly valuable. That long-awaited deal could add billions to the company’s coffers, significantly helping out the relationship with their shareholders.

Yahoo did not officially say they let Thompson go because of the biography inaccuracy, but it’s clear that this issue was a major part of the decision. In all the notes about Thompson, including his bio filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission, he was listed as having degrees in both accounting and computer science from Stonehill College outside Boston. When Loeb discovered that Thompson never earned the computer science degree, he brought the issue to the board, starting a battle that eventually led to his ouster. Thompson oversaw the largest workforce cut in Yahoo’s history, so maybe he would have been better served going back to school for an urban planning masters.

Setting off on your honeymoon should be the least stressful part of getting married, but for some couples it can be the start of a terrible holiday!

Setting off on your honeymoon should be the least stressful part of getting married, but for some couples it can be the start of a terrible holiday!

After weeks of stressful wedding planning and barely seeing each other, most couples would be glad for the chance to spend a week or two completely alone on their honeymoon, and look forward to getting away from it all. Unfortunately for some, planning the honeymoon can cause just as much stress as the wedding itself, especially if your idea of a holiday is very different from your partner’s.

Here we’ve put together some tips to help you plan a stress free holiday that will make your honeymoon a treasured memory instead of a nightmare!

Plan out your activities

It might sound boring, but knowing what you both like to do on holiday is vital to ensure neither of you gets bored or miserable during your time away. If you’re more of a sun-worshipper while your new hubby prefers to go rock climbing (or vice versa!) then you need to reach some sort of compromise to keep each other happy. Make sure you plan a few days of activities to give each other time to go sightseeing or on adventure tours, and a few days of lazing around the pool with cocktails. You might think you’ll be so wrapped up in each other that you’ll never get bored, but even a week with only each other as company can feel like an eternity!

Research the area well

Again, this might seem like boring advice, but if you don’t know what’s available then you won’t be able to plan ahead. It’s also worth checking the internet for recent reviews and news as well, as you may find someone discussing the noisy construction work or terrible food poisoning they suffered during their stay – there’s nothing romantic about being stuck in the bathroom for a week, and negative reviews can help you avoid wasting money on a shoddy company!

Talk about it

An obvious one, but sometimes one half of a couple will leave it to the other to make all the important decisions, then get upset when it’s not how they expected. Discuss where you’ve been before, and where you would both love to visit next; you want to make your honeymoon the best trip abroad you’ve ever taken, so make sure it’s to somewhere special! Another good idea is to discuss travel arrangements; are either of you scared of flying? A panic attack in the middle of a long-haul flight definitely isn’t the ideal way to kick off the honeymoon, or perhaps your spouse just isn’t happy with being stuck on a plane for hours on end. Either way, knowing your limits and fitting the destination and travel plans around them will save a lot of discomfort and stress.

Get some help

There’s no need to feel like you should be doing all the work, after all, you’ve worked hard enough lately! Although online deals and last minute vacations are popular right now, often they are a recipe for disaster. Try using a reputable travel agent to help you plan out your honeymoon down to the smallest detail; many travel companies offer tailor made holidays and honeymoon packages that take care of all your needs, and take the task of planning everything off your hands.

Take the pressure off

The constant pressure to live up to the “ideal wedding” and “ideal marriage” can be a little overwhelming, and it puts a lot of strain on a relationship when one or both of you feels like you’ve let your partner down in some way. Remember that, while you’re planning the perfect honeymoon, it might not work out that way when the time comes. The best way to deal with this is to simply have fun and make sure you don’t sweat the small stuff – after all, you’ve got each other for support if anything does go wrong!
