If I’ve learned one thing from being a parent it’s that time really does fly. You can’t imagine ever forgetting the way your 3 year old sounds when he laughs or his funny little mispronunciations. But- you probably will. You mean to pull the video camera out but for most of us- life gets in the way. If only they would stay little forever.
Recently I discovered a treasure that I wish I’d found years ago- The Birthday Interview. The Birthday Interview is a keepsake box that includes everything you need to conduct a yearly interview on your children’s birthdays, using your video camera. As I watched creator Susan Fieldstein’s emotional video detailing how birthday interviews began in her family and what they mean to her now- it really touched me, tears sprang to my eyes. As a mom, I relate to the emotion in her voice as she speaks about her most precious gifts- her children.
In Susan’s words: “Every year (except a few of the teenage years when they refused to do the interview!) they picked their favorite spot and excitedly awaited the list of questions. The interview took about twenty minutes of our time, but gave us a priceless recollection of the year in review, all in the voices of my children.”
The Birthday Interview will become a priceless keepsake, but unlike many keepsake kits it’s very affordable at only $19.95 plus shipping. I can’t wait til our little one’s birthday in a few months- you can bet I’ll be interviewing her. And years from now- when she no longer giggles uncontrollably for no reason, when she no longer calls me mommy (that hurts to type)- we will have that precious moment in time- forever, to look back on and remember what she was like on that day.

What an awesome idea! It’s sort of like doing your own personal documentary on your child. Sometimes as kids get older, the recording of milestones falls by the wayside; I think a birthday interview is an ingenious way to make sure that doesn’t happen.
That is a really great idea!!! Maybe I’ll point my sister in the direction of that site
I am getting choked up just reading about this. How come nobody thought of this before?
Awesome idea. I will be sure to pass along to friends with younger children.
Talk about a priceless gift…..
I like this. It’s affordable and a wonderful keepsake. It sounds like a nice way to make them feel important on their special day. I wish I had done this w/the ones that are grown.
This looks like something I wish I would have used when my sons were growing up. What a great idea and yes very affordable. My nephew just found out that they are having their first and this will make a great gift to give the new parents.
I have one of these and am so grateful to Susan for it! Anyone who buys one will treasure the memories even more deeply! The box that is priovided helps keep it organized. Thank you for such a wonderful and poignant article promoting The Birthday Interview!
Aw, why didn’t I do this? The closest I have come is the snapshot for the Christmas card, and I think I misplaced a few years.
I am definitely sharing this with the next generation. It’s a great idea.
I love this! What a great find!
