Kate Gosselin went to Target this week and set America’s tongues wagging. From their computer keyboards, millions clad in yoga pants (used to be called sweat pants back in the day) and t-shirts lined up to give their opinion on Ms. Gosselin’s ensemble.
Judgments ran the gamut:
-”What mom wears an outfit like that to Target?” (Have you noticed that that the naysayers frequently begin their diatribe against Kate’s fashion choices with the line “what mom?”)
-”The top and shorts were fine, but the shoes were just too much.”
-”Kate is in fabulous shape, why not show some skin?”
And so on and so on.
What do you think? Personally, I think a pair of flats would have looked just as cute with the outfit (and been more comfortable), but they aren’t my feet and we all know Kate likes her heels.
On a side note, I’d like to register my gratitude that Kate hasn’t picked up on my least favorite fashion trend – wearing pajama bottoms out in public.

Not liking it. She’s gorgeous no matter what, but flats would have been better.
Yeah, I’ll agree that the shoes put it over the top. That said, I think she looks good. And I also despise the “mom” argument, as if giving birth automatically restricts one to a specific wardrobe, and one’s motherhood status can be taken away if she doesn’t come up to snuff.
I pretty much hated the shoes. I don’t care who is wearing them. Kate is in great shape and if I had great looking legs I would probably show them off too. Not a fan of the top. I am not sure why. Just doesn’t appeal to me.
The other day I saw a video of her in a blue top, skirt and some type of “flip flops” and thought she looked great. That is more of a summer type outfit that I like.
I think it is a cute outfit, but hate the shoes
. I am of the opinion that high heals don’t go with everything, unless you are a Rockette or something
.
LOL Wendy.
The heels killed it for me. They’re too much w/the short skirt and low shirt. I’m not sure I’d like them w/anything.
I think it’s pretty funny that people spend so much time fretting over what this woman wears!
That said, the heels were too much. Unless you’re a hooker, the heels and shorts look just doesn’t work.
As for being grateful that she doesn’t wear jammie bottom in public? Yes, that one really bugs me! I was seeing my OB/GYN the other day and a very young teen mom-to-be and her boyfriend were both wearing pajama bottoms. It was…disturbing.
Not feeling this outfit… The shorts are cute, the top is a little too revealing for my taste & the shoes did send it over the top. I agree that a simple pair of flops or flats probably wouldn’t have even made this outfit newsworthy. That being said, she’s a big girl & can wear what she wants.
Regarding the pajama pants- when I was at the pediatrician’s office a couple months ago, there was a couple in there wearing pajama pants & house shoes- seriously!?

I totally agree. It is also pretty disingenuous. Of course, Kate is not dressing like most other moms at Target, but those moms don’t have paps following them and taking pictures from every angle either.
My take – Kate works out and is proud of her body. It’s hot in PA right now and she likes an opportunity to look stylish. She clearly likes and is comfortable in heels.
Not every outfit she wears will be to “our” taste, but I do think people (me too!) spend too much time analyzing this stuff.
I am glad I have some people backing me up on my extreme dislike of pajama pants in public!
I’m so with you on your post #8 Anya! From the pajamas in public to Kate liking and feeling good with heels. Personally, I’d wear a flatter sandal with the outfit. I really can’t tell what kind of shoe that is from this pic, but the gladiator sandals are all the rage…is this it? To me, it looks like she’s wearing weights on her ankles and heels.
And I used to cringe when we were little and one of the neighborhood moms would drive us to school in her nightgown! She’d throw a coat on sometimes, but yeah, just a nightgown and a car load of kids. I remember asking my mom why she doesn’t wear her nightgown when we she drives and my mom replied, “because a person should have the decency to wear clothes when out in public”.
Kate’s back to co-hosting the View on July 2nd. http://www.usmagazine.com/moviestvmusic/news/kate-gosselin-returns-to-co-host-the-view-2010246
The pajama thing reminds me of a Seinfeld episode (Sadly, too many things in life do
). When George was wearing sweatpants, Jerry said something to the effect that he was telling the world he had given up.
Just read Kate will be a co-host on The View July 2. I like the shoes but not with that outfit. I think a pair of wedges would have look cuter. It is hot as heck in Pa so I don’t blame her for wearing a cute short outfit. She works hard to stay in shape so I say enjoy !

That is my take too – although I see teenagers wearing them too. So if they haven’t “given up” my take is — “I just don’t care.” Kind of sad. BTW, love Seinfeld and find myself tying current events to the episodes too!
As for Kate on “The View” – great news. I am glad she keeps getting asked back. I think this is a positive sign as to the ratings she brings and her professionalism.
I’m not a regular ‘View’ watcher but look forward to seeing her on the show again. Personally I’d like to see Whoopi and Joy gone and Kate a regular on the show.
As for the outfit……..she looked good, except I am also not a fan of the shoes……on anyone…..lol.
I heard Kate say one time in an interview, when asked about the high heels, that she wears them to try and make her legs look longer. As someone who’s also too short on one end, I can totally understand where she’s coming from. Our short legs are the bane of our existence!!!…..lol!! And there’s absolutely nothing you can do about it, except try for something that fools the eye…..I personally try not to wear tops that are too long, Kate uses high heels. I’d fall off the high heels and I’m too old to take the chance, so that’s not an option for me…….lol I think if she looks at a pic of herself wearing those shoes, she won’t be wearing them again as I think they shorten her legs visually.
Wow, Kate’s getting to be a reg on The View. I will be watching. I am interested in seeing her and Whoopie. I thought Whoopie was out of line calling Kate a bitch (several times) when she was talking about her performance on DWTS. My opinion of Whoopie has gone down this last year, for several reasons. I used to be a real admirer of hers.
Anyone see Jon’s new tattoo? I do not care for the face on the dragon at all. I’ve seen other dragons that I like much better. Makes me shiver cause it looks so painful to get that much ink.
I think the same thing about Whoopi, Lily! I thought it was really rude of her to call Kate a bitch several times, then ignore her/treat her bad (which I thought) when she was there. Who died and left Whoopi boss?
Which brings me to the main reason I can’t stand her. About 4 years ago, Whoopi decides she wants to do morning radio. So, she does her thing on a New York station with Cubby Bryant and it’s syndicated….which means cheaper for a radio station to run than their local man/team. she’s a “name” and in theory, would be identifiable and relatable to the audiences (mostly AC and Urban stations picked her up). A ton of people lost their livelihoods and income because of this selfish woman who decides twoyears later it wasn’t for her after all. So all these displaced people now are either at new jobs(most likely not in radio or had to start over at another station, probably not at the salaray they were at). I also think a part of her wanting to get out of the morning radio thing was that her show was failing miserably. Cubby left the show in 2008 (he was a fixture of NY radio for years) She must’ve been a bitch to work with. He’s a real radio pro and known in the industry, so I highly doubt it was an issue with him. She leaves shortly after. But, that’s it in a nutshell why I’m not much of a Whoopi fan anymore.
It has to be Whoopi’s way or no way. I’m all for seeing her and Barbara off the View. I lost a lot of respect for Barbara after hearing her thoughts on a lot of issues. It’s like, “Shut up Barbara. You were once a broadcast pioneer for women, now you’re just an old hen showing her thoughtless babble.” I truly believe she’s tarnished her image so much by being on that panel (and I realize it’s her show, but there is a time to hang it up and she should).
The way people were carrying on at some other sites, I thought she was wearing booty shorts and had nipples showing. Personally, I love the shorts and top. The heals aren’t my thing (I am a flip flop girl) but overall I think the shoes work fine with the outfit.
I do not care for Jon’s tatoo at all but that is his business.
I agree with everyone else, I think those shoes are not good–with anything. I’m not sure anyone except a very long legged model could wear. I wear heels every day to work, so I’m always in heels–If I had my choice I would wear moccasins every where.
Theresa, thanks for the story. I remember her radio show. I was very excited about it. But, then I found it came on 5:00 a.m. I was a big fan at the time. I was also happy when she first came on The View. She gives her opinion or mouths off w/o being informed. Her tangents aren’t funny, they come off mean and ignorant. I was very disappointed in her “it wasn’t rape rape” comment about Polanski. The victim was a child for goodness sakes.
Yeah, between Goldberg’s defense of Michael Vick and her defense of Roman Polanski, any liking I had for her (which was never particularly strong) is gone. She just seems like an ass to me.
Yeah, that Roman Polanski support was another huge reason she’s not on my “favorites” list. As well as the Vick remarks.
I liked Whoopi or so I thought until she came on The View. I liked her work as an actress. I no longer care for her specifically because of her statements made regarding Michael Vick and Roman Polanski.
I use to tape and watch The View when I got home from weekends but I have not done so in several years. I see it from time to time when I am off work. I especially dislike how she does not participate in interviews or does so to a minimum if she dislikes the guest or thinks the topic is beneath her. She knew what she signed up for and if she doesn’t like it she should get out.
