Last week was a busy one for Kate Gosselin and those of us who follow her. Kate started the week on the west coast, where it was officially announced that she was one of the 11 cast members joining the upcoming season of Dancing with the Stars. In short order, we quickly found out that her partner would be Tony Dovolani. After seeing the two of them interviewed together, I think Tony is going to be a great teacher and mentor to Kate. I like their rapport – I think Tony’s positive outlook combined with Kate’s can-do attitude can only help them.
Later in the week, Kate and Tony were in New York City for more dance rehearsal and publicity appearances. In this clip, the two of them are interviewed while attending the premiere of Discovery Channel’s “Life.” (Does anyone else besides me remember the Gosselin movie night episode when the family watched “Planet Earth” – too cute.)
Kate is now presumably back in PA practicing in her newly created home dance studio while balancing her mom duties.
Many jokes have been made about the eight votes Kate is guaranteed from her little ones. Now, we can add a ninth – Jon’s. “Congratulations to Kate for joining the new season of DWTS. I am thrilled for her. She has my support and vote.” This statement was perhaps the highlight of a busy, but exciting week for Kate.

Me first! Kate is back in PA, I saw a pic. I’m looking forward to seeing her dance. I get the impression the show is like “boot camp” for dancing, so wow! is she going to be fit. I think it’s fun to know how to dance and to teach your kids.
I know there’s a lot of buzz about Kate being away from her children. I kind of understand since she is famous for being a mom. But, how is Jon ever supposed to see his children if Kate doesn’t leave? He hasn’t been seen there much at all in the last few months. And, he’s been flitting all over the place. He needs to make the time to see them. I’m wondering if Jon isn’t willing to be there all the time. There was some rumor from one mag from a source that Kate wasn’t going to allow Jon to be w/the kids while she was rehearsing. J&K are famous now, there are always going to be wild and OTT rumors flying in the rags. There are laws. For the sake of the children, Kate has been around Jon when I know I couldn’t be if he were my husband. They’ve had a couple of public bumps, both were Jon antics. The night at the gate, and the twins’ bd when Kate asked if they could split time. Hopefully, those problems were worked out in the divorce and so who knows now? It’s certainly not fair to judge Kate for time she takes for herself, whether or not she’s earning $s.
Kate’s not dating (publicly anyway), she’s been focusing on her career and children, those are good things. After going through the divorce and not knowing what Jon was going to pull from day to day, it’s nice to see her having some fun at the DWTS publicity events and making some $s too.
BTW, I watched Crews Control, the new reality show on BET w/Terry Crews’ family. I was disappointed, I’ve seen 3. It’s contrived, it’s scripted. It would have been funner just to see them hanging out for the day. There’s no way Terry Crews can be such an idiot irl. In the chair (like J&K’s couch) he does a poor job of acting like the clueless dad. I still think he’s a hottie and I really liked his acting in The Longest Yard and Everybody Hates Chris. His family seems lovely, and I’m sure they thought this was an opportunity they couldn’t pass up. But, the show isn’t good imo. If you want, you can read about here.
Can you believe it has been 9 months since the official break-up? During that time Kate has spent the majority of her time in Pa. Even when Jon had custody she spent weekends at a local hotel. I get tired of people whining that she should be home with the kids……when she is out of town for various projects it has been anywhere from 2 to 5 days. Pretty tame compared to some of the sightings with Jon and his traveling for weeks at a time. Even if it is not public, I just don’t see Kate dating for at least another year or so for the children’s sake and also her career.
I agree she looks like she is having fun with DWTS, she is glowing and seems more relaxed then before. I think her dress for the DWTS is very tasteful and I see how she is trying to look great without be to provocative.
Now this is just my opinion but the new quiet Jon is a pleasant suprise, TLC must have really had him in a corner. With Hailey sprouting out the nasty comments about money and other crude remarks maybe Jon has learned his lesson. There is alot to repair in his image at this point. I don’t know if the rumours about Jon not being able to see the kids when it is not his time are true or not, but he does deserve to spend time with his children. I do think that the TLC settlement help in mending some fences with Kate, and hopefully this will enable them to co-parent the way they originally projected at the separation episode with holidays and birthdays. It can only be a win-win situation for all involved.
So I have 2 questions
Is DWTS only on Monday nite or is like American Idol that has back to back nights? I want to make sure I am off the nights that it is on
I have not heard anything about Jon’s new girlfriend, did they break up or with the new low profile Jon keeping it out of the limelight?
I think they have back to back nights for vote offs!
Monday is dance night and voting, Tuesday is the elimination. I think!

Kate has been getting more attention than I can ever recall a DWTS contestant getting – and this weeks before the show even premieres! I don’t understand how some people can keep saying that she’s not a star – by one measure at least – public and media attention – she absolutely is.
The cover of Star magazine as always in ridiculous. Noticed it last night while in line at CVS, Picture where her eyes are all but closed (of course) title that read “Kate ditches kids for DWTS”. Morons. When has there been a season without contestants that didn’t have children? Never.
I like the new low-profile Jon, too, and I am glad he is being polite to his ex-wife publicly. It’s refreshing. It’s also nice that Gosselin chatter around th web is focused on DWTS and not the divorce. I can’t believe it’s been 9 months since the divorce announcement either.
So, when should I start tuning into DWTS? This will be my first season watching. I hope I like it.
I think the dance studio in the basement was a great idea. How much fun will that be for the little dances in the family? It puts Kate at a disadvantage due to jet lag, but I doubt she will be crushed if she loses. Amazingly, she is being criticized for this, too. Why people get their knickers twisted over where she practices or how tired she is baffles me.

So things we know about DWTS. The publicity photos are folks in their own clothes or something clothespinned in the back from the big closet. The show costumes are all custom for the dancers. Last year Elizabeth Taylor lent something from her closet to Kathy Ireland.
Dancers keep the same phone number throughout the season. If you know the number you can vote without watching. It is hard to vote someone off. There is a very complicated formula where the judges scores and the voting keep you in. You lose if that combo is the lowest. The big geek campaign last year to keep Wozniak on was so successful that I think the judges ended up giving him a single digit score before he was out. Then there was the little Cheetah Girl, poor thing was a very good dancer but not enough parents let their daughters vote so she left waaaayyy to early.
Some of the pros are just better teachers and choreographers for this type of thing. The Hough siblings really seem to get the best out of whoever they have been paired with. Max seems to always have major conflict. Women screaming, women crying – really it has to be him. Some pros seem to showcase themselves more than their partner (Cheryl B). Louis is very good with his partners.
The stars that have a good core strength consistently fair well. The bull rider had NO rhythm and yet he went pretty far. Jane Seymore and Susan Lucci are both pilates folks and they just looked better, even though they couldn’t dance. Cute guys ALWAYS last longer than pretty women. Why is that?

Lily, I have been meaning to check out the Crews Control show since you mentioned it. I am disappointed to hear that it isn’t very good. I generally don’t care for overly scripted/contrived reality shows. Yes, I acknowledge that all reality shows have some sort of “script” – for lack of a better word - that they are working with, but there is a huge difference between Jon & Kate Plus 8 (that example just flew into my brain!) and Keeping up with the Kardashians. I think one of the reasons J&K were as successful as it was is viewers sensed the realness of the interactions.
On the other hand, considering what Kate (and Jon to a lesser extent) has had to put up with, I don’t blame Terry Crews and his family for not putting *it all* out there. The clueless dad is a sitcom staple and won’t cause controversy. Imagine if he or his wife were “real” and got caught in a moment of less than perfect parenting, I am sure the Gwop women and their ilk would have much to say!
So Kate’s co hosting on The View this Thursday, for those of you like me who forget the days of this stuff. They will have lots to talk about.
I hope some hang out here on DWTS nights. I haven’t watched before, so it would be fun to watch w/some other IWers.
Sam, I had no idea it was in the tabloids like that. It’s all very silly that Kate is never supposed to be away from her children, go to the spa, go tan, and on and on. These kids have 2 parents. It’s very silly to think that Kate could keep Jon away from the children if he wanted to be there. It’s also a good possibility that Jon doesn’t want to be there and Kate doesn’t want to say anything about it. It’s hard to move on when you have to comment on the personal details. But, no one knows. Maybe they’ll ask her on The View.
Ann, start watching on March 22nd. The next night is elimination. I wonder if the little girls in their leotards, hannahtards, and lexitards (as Leah said in an episode) will be there dancing along with Kate while she practices.
I like the lower key Jon too. Hope this is his way of finally turning his life around.

The tabloids are once again making money off of Kate. Why don’t they put these headlines out about Pam Anderson or any of the other moms?. How about Brooke Burke? She’s a mother and now she’s the co-host of this show. While it’s not as time consuming as being a dancer, she was the winner one year. No mention of her skipping out on her kids.
I heard Tony say how great this arrangement is for him too, because he’ll get to see more of his kids (I think his family is in Connecticut?).

Theresa, how nice for Tony to see his own family more, now that he is practicing in PA. Thanks for mentioning that. I thought he lived in LA and that he was making a big sacrifice. It turns out, it’s advantageous for him too.
I wonder if that is how Kate’s partner was chosen? They paired her with another East Coast dancer who would be happy to practice in Wernersville?
Ladies, I live near enough to the Gosselins to “swing by” some day. I am really tempted to check out the place now that I know there is dancing going on! Too bad, they live in the country, not really on the way to anywhere for me to justify the extra traffic.

Before I forget, I went the The View site and I can’t find Kate listed anywhere. (I hope it wasn’t right in front of me and I missed it.) She is a co host not a guest. Why wouldn’t they have her up on the board? Anyway, I don’t know if there’s a change or not, but thought I’d let everyone know.

Ann, you are so right. I watched a few of the shows of Raising Sextuplets on We w/the Masche’s. (Is that still on?) The ones I saw, the couple reminded me of J&K. I believe Jenny Masche also had plastic surgery on the show. It was almost completely ignored by the ones who attack Kate. There weren’t letters or boycotts (what a joke those were), or the outcry of “what about the children?”
Anya, the last thing I would want to do is sic anyone on the Crews family. I don’t think they have an Aunt Jodi w/a vindictive sister.
I watched a J&K this morning. It was Aaden and Hannah’s special day out. J&K were pretty nice to each other in that one. It was fun to see the kids little again. There was so much I’d forgotten, I might start catching them.

lily i agree. the masche wife had a tummy tuck and her breasts enlarged. i too think there are a lot of similarities and i also think the whole thing with gwop boils down to hate for kate gosselin and nothing else.
i read there today about how the kids were in shirt sleeves in pa in march! and yet i just watched the show where one of the kids had a special day and aunt jodi (gasp!) had them out in 40 degree weather and she had a coat on and her littlest girl had no coat and short sleeves.

Just to let you know I went to The View and Kate will be on next week. I believe it will be March 17th. I am started to think Ted Gibson is a genuis with all these great hairstyles he is giving Kate. I’ll admit when the first picture came out with the long hair I was 50/50 on it. But as time goes on he just keeps giving her new fabulous looks and I am sure Kate is also thrilled to have so many different looks to play with.

Kimmie, I was watching a J&K the other morning and Aunt Jodi was watching them while J&K took Hannah out for her day. I did fade out for awhile but it caught my attention that the kids were playing w/pool balls on the pool table (this was when they were much younger 2nd season?). It caught my attention because I thought it dangerous. A pack of kids all alone armed w/a heavy weapon and too little to understand the injury they could cause. I was wondering who let them do this? What a recipe for disaster. Then the door opened to the basement and they were at Aunt Jodi’s.
It’s fun watching these, it’s been awhile since I saw any of them. The one where they went to Sesame Street Place was on today. Btw, A breast enlargement for Jenny Masche? Yes, it’s only Kate, who btw, denies having any plastic surgery (not the tummy tuck of course).
I got my copy of People of day. LOL, that’s the second one I’ve purchased because of Kate, other than that, I wouldn’t buy it. When I checked out, the clerk knew I had been in the day before looking for the new People. I see her often and she is around 59ish. She put her glasses up and looked at my mag and asked is in a surprised voice “Is that Kate Gosselin?” I said yes, she’s on DWTS. She said she felt sorry for her because of her husband. Prob a boring story, I know, but from the beginning of my fascination w/this show, I have only run into one other person (irc) who watched. I was always wondering who were the fans of Kate. After I got in my car, I realized I didn’t even ask her if she watched J&K+8.
I’m sure there’s tidbits all over the net, but here’s a couple.
Kate says she’s bringing the dogs back. This is one of those things I never cared about except for the reaction it got and how Jon used it to get at Kate, (one of his low points w/the kids). The dogs were always okay, either at J&Ks or at the Breeder/Trainer’s. He had such a great place and the dogs were beautiful.
Kate says she encourages Jon to have extra time w/the kids and he was w/the kids 9 out of the 12 days she was gone. WTG Jon! Nice to hear. The extent of anything she said negative about Jon was that she couldn’t depend on him to provide for their children. That’s kind of no-brainer. Also, a good pov for any woman that is divorced w/kids. I believe Kate does feel the responsibility for the financial future of her family. Jon, well, he took $s out of the account and suddenly stopped their future income when he stopped the filming. He has been so crazed that I sincerely doubt he has suddenly changed his ways, but maybe being reigned in by the lawsuit will help him get his head on straight. He needs to get over whatever that thing was he and Hailey had and clear his thinking. They were just bizarre.
The interview was good.
Over and over, I have read the argument that Kate doesn’t have to live in the mansion, blah blah. There’s nothing wrong w/Kate living this lifestyle and not going back to the Etown house (that’s been said forever). I’m sure she wants something for the children after the family did J&K+8 those 4 years.

Glad to hear that Jon has been with the kids while Kate’s away. US Weekly has a report from a “family insider” that the kids are depressed and upset because she’s been away, and that the boys have gotten in trouble at school for talking back to their teacher. Hmmm, I wonder which “insider” ( who probably thinks the kids were exploited), would exploit the kids by telling those personal tidbits? And how would this person have any knowledge of such a thing (if it were true)? I don’t think Jon would be leaking anything like that, considering he has been away from the kids, too, and not for work.

Sometimes I don’t know if I want to laugh or cry at the” insider sources”. Last weeks rumor of the week was that Jon was furious that Kate would not let him spend time with the children while she was gone.That Kate would rather have the kids with the nanny then have Jon spend more time with him. It was also stated the children prefer to be with Jon. This week the kids are depressed and upset that she has been away. Well if she is such a horrible and terrible mother who does not love her children and shows them no affection why would they be upset?
Lily I agree with you about the house. Considering todays real estate prices, I think they got a steal at 1.2 million. The last thing the children would have needed was to move back to the old house in the upheaval of the divorce. The original intention was to provide space and room as the children matured and developed thier own interests.
Well, I can’t put off starting my day any longer. I’ve already had 3 cups of tea. I did have a funny thought that Jon must be eating some of Kate’s cooking during his visitation. In People, she says she prepares and freezes their meals for when she’s away. J&K seem to be making it work w/the rotation of their parenting time in the same house.
I think it would be so great for the family if Jon does get it together. Hope this support for Kate on DWTS and time spent with the kids, was a sign of more positive things to come. The entire family has been through so much this past year, it’s so nice to see good things happening. I hope Kate has a blast on the DWTS, all mom’s deserve to have fun. If she’s having fun and earning money all the better. I think Kate’s hair has looked great in just about all the new style’s she really has become very glamerous. It gives me hope, I am still in that baby fog mode, she was in at the beginning of the show. I like to think that one day soon I will also lose the track pant’s and bobby pin in my hair. I’ts just an easy uniform for a SAHM with little kids. I found Kate’s look changed gradually, when the kids got older and she started to work outside the home more. She’s looking so fit these days, almost inspires me to drag out my tread mill, sure seems to have worked for her.
Lily, thanks for the recap of the People article. She certainly looks good on the cover. I agree that it’s nice to hear Jon is spending more time at home. The dogs are coming back? That’s news to me! I never would have guessed it. I hope they are able to stay this time.
I agree that the mansion is definitely a great investment and a wise buy, even in a bad market. The land and home will regain its value and it’s not a big deal if you don’t intend to sell anyway. It’s a beautiful property, though I am glad I neither clean nor heat that place, lol!
