Kate Gosselin once again graces the cover of People magazine this week. Kate spoke to the magazine for the first time since being chosen as one of the 11 contestants of season 10 of ABC’s Dancing with the Stars.
For those of you who haven’t had an opportunity to read the interview yet, I will recap some of the more interesting comments Kate shared. (Lily was already kind enough to share a few tidbits!)
-”I hope even the moms who hate me will say, ‘Oh, this is so foreign to her, and look at her willingness to be up there.’ But I can’t promise anyone I can pull this off.”
-”I feel my job is actually beneficial because it allows me large blocks of time at home with the kids that I wouldn’t have if I worked 9 to 5.”
-”I talk to my kids up to 10 times per day. When my phone quacks–that’s my ringtone for them, a duck quack–no matter what time it is or where I am, I dive on that phone to answer that call!”
-”Learning to dance has meant facing my biggest fears, and it has brought out the hugest insecurities in me, ever.”
-”…I’m married to my kids essentially…I’m very aware of the fact that all decisions are on me. The domino effect of what I decide today is going to affect tomorrow and the next day and so on.”
-”If I last two weeks on the show, I’ve shown my kids that hard work and perseverance pays off.”
Hair Today, Gone Tomorrow
The only topic generating more interest in Kate’s world than DWTS, is predictably, Kate’s hair. Kate returned to Ted Gibson’s salon this week and had her much discussed hair extensions removed. The results looked like this:
Some have speculated this is a wig. If it is, I think it’s a pretty good one. I think the cut and color are flattering. What do you think? In any case, Kate was back to the more toussled look of late as of this weekend.
In an event that I would imagine was probably booked before she landed her current gig on DWTS, Kate appeared before a standing room only audience of more than a 1,000 at the South Bend Women’s Expo this Saturday to discuss children’s health and her own infertility struggles. The South Bend Tribune has a nice write-up on Kate’s appearance and the enthusiasm she generated.

I enjoyed the People Magazine article … especially the story of Cara being happy to have Mommy food when Kate is gone and of the boys playing with their trucks on the new dance floor. I am also glad that Jon was there 9 of the 12 days that Kate was gone. That is good for the kids. I wonder if he is with them this weekend?
From what I here there were 1000 women there during Kate’s talk and 12 protesting outside (the whole concept of women’s show focusing on beauty and stuff). I agree that it is likely the South Bend speaking engagement was scheduled long before DWTS came up. It is nice that Kate honored the contract and it probably gave Tony a day off with his kids.
I like the new extensions.
Kate always honors the contract!
I read the same article about the protest, too, Paige. It was organized by a college feminist group and the protest was against all the beauty and botox booths that were at the event, not Kate Gosselin. But When has the TRUTH ever stopped the anti-Kate blogs? They’ll spin it as they like and in 3 months we’ll be reading comments about the 100s of protesters who turned out against reality TV exploitation.
I love her bob and her new extensions. She just can’t lose.
I liked the People article too! I liked when she said there’s nothing wrong with a mom taking a shower and putting on makeup. So true.
Her new bob looks great. I also liked the hair extensions (the shorter ones…making her hair medium length).
She’s going to be rocking some great makeup and hair (and costumes) on DWTS. The jealous will be salivating…
I seriously LOVE the new bob. I can’t wait for this new season!
I love the new haircut- its looks wonderful. The cover is smokin! Its sad that nomatter what she does she has to defend it. It’s asinine at this point. Its been said a billion times, but the obsession these women have with her is frightening.
I hope she has a good run on DWTS. I really hope that she can get foot loose and dance, dance, dance. Haven’t read the new people yet, but she looks great on the cover.
I was impressed by Kate’s candor in the People interview. She is usually straightforward, but not quite as vulnerable as she was in this piece. She addressed the haters a bit, which I have mixed feelings about. On the one hand, I’d like to think that her vulnerability would encourage some people to give her a break for once, but OTOH, I’m not holding my breath.
Absolutely LOVE the “bob” haircut above any of the others although she is so pretty and photogenic that she could probably pull off just about any “look.” I am SOO sick and tired of all of the negative comments that follow her in everything that she does and every where she goes. Even next to a pic on TMZ (regarding them moving the dance floor into the house) they had to go and make a snarky comment along the lines of: “Kate has installed a dancing floor in her basement, so the nannies….no, SORRY…Kate can take care of her kids and learn dancing at the same time.” That’s not the EXACT wording they used, but you know what I mean. These people can’t look at Kate OBJECTIVELY from any angle. And I am sure that most of it is fueled by the GWOPers; however, at the same time…GET YOUR FACTS STRAIGHT…TRY RESPONSIBLE JOURNALISM instead of pulling snide comments out of the air….or off of a website filled with hate-filled individuals that NEVER give Kate the benefit of the doubt.
Sorry for my little rant, but I just HAD to post my feelings about their constant scrutiny and negativity.
I am looking forward to her appearing on The View as well, but at the same time wonder how some of the women at that table are going to be able to look Kate in the eyes after saying some of the hateful things they’ve said about her/the divorce/the show, etc. since the last time she was on.
I will say this…Kate must have some REALLY thick skin because despite the rumors, despite the hate that is out there directed at her, she has maintained a very high level of class, dignity and grace.
Alright my IW buddies, I am off to bed for now! Just had to check the IW site for THE TRUTH regarding Gosselin chatter! I’m SO glad that I can access your website again because I was having trouble navigating the pages for a couple of days and realized then that this (IMO) is the ONLY reputable site out there on the web!
Take care and blessings to all!
Hi Jacquelyn
Glad you are out of the hospital ( saw that on a previous thread) and I hope things are going better for you.
We apologize that we were down last week for a day or so. We had noticed over the last month or more that it was taking forever for our site to load or to leave a comment especially with our recent increase in traffic , so we upgraded our server. We did leave a notice up on our Facebook page to try and get the word out. We will always try to keep people informed with that page if anything similar happens down the road.
Anya does a great job with these Gosselin updates and we are glad you come here for your updates.
Take care,
Pam
This Johnny Weir stuff is just, uh, weird. For those who haven’t heard, this was making the rounds yesterday-
http://www.nypost.com/p/pagesix/kate_attitude_roils_dancing_PH4N6JImJn89qvCCKrLDMI
If it’s true (ha!), it’s really stupid. Anyway, Johnny W. was on The Insider last night, claiming he wasn’t invited to be in the Stars on Ice figure-skating tour because he wasn’t “family friendly”, which they deny. (They didn’t mention DWTS.) And they said he was doing his own reality show. I guess he’s looking for publicity.
So, I Googled him and found this-
His cousin was their neighbor at the old house? I wonder if cuz is a GWoPper? Is this some crazy new “celebrity” feud in the making? Were there paparazzi at the old house, though?
I thought that didn’t start until they had moved. I guess it doesn’t matter, as long as it gets him some attention.
It’s soemething how magazines/papers (like the new york post article) twist or make up stories to have words fill a space on their paper. Honestly, the woman is in PA, not L.A. and most likely gets along with the other cast members. She gets heckled when she does something that’s in the best interest of the kids. There’s no winning for Kate as far as the detractors are concerned. And, so many magazines and tv tabloids are using her when they do this and go with the latest rumor de jour without any kind of fact checking.
Can’t agree more with you Kiki on Johnny Weir! He needs to grow up.
Also, just because he’s a good skater doesnt’ mean he should automatically be in Stars on Ice. If a company believes he’s not marketable to mainstream America, that’s their perogative not to employ him. Or, maybe the other skaters didn’t want him. There most likely are so many truly legitimate reasons as to why he wasn’t asked to be in Stars on Ice. He’s just crying because it’ll get him onto the magazine shows and tabloids with a blurb of when his show airs.
I don’t want this to sound sexist or prejudice or gay-bashing, but I think it’s just as bad when a gay person uses their own homosexuality as exploitation and publicity, like Johnny seems to be doing here.
Yes, it’s really immature and tacky to cry discrimination when there was none, and to bash someone who has done nothing to you, just to get attention. I think his personality might be the problem. He seems like he’d be entertaining to watch on DWTS .
I’ve been enjoying the DWTS forum at ABC.com. They’ve been descended upon by the Kate haters, and basically, the regulars are saying “So what? Who cares? Get a life!” They aren’t impressed by the crap being spewed, and they point out how ridiculous it all sounds.
Don’t forget, Kate is on The View tomorrow.
Methinks Johnny is jealous of Evan L. being on DWTS and won’t admit it. This gives him some publicity.
I also read the insinuations that Johnny Weir made about Kate, it also goes back to the appearance she made in the summer with a skating event. It was reported back then that she was very rude and acting like a diva in all the gossip columns with the event. My take on the event was it was those very turbulent summer months with Jon all over the tabloids with Hailey and him bashing TLC. It was a very stressful time and possibly Kate was not at her best. They said the same thing about Kate after one of her appearances on NBC from a inside source and they said she was rude and a diva. NBC came out with a statement the following day and said it was not true that it was a pleasure having her there. I love these insider sources
never a name or a face to back up the statements. On EW a inside source that is on the set of DWTS stated that they have been pleasantly surprised how nice Kate has been on the set after hearing about previous rumors about her. The inside source stated that since she does split the time she is not there as much as the other contestants and is there to work and get back home.
Lucky me I am off tomorrow so I get to see Kate on The View I am sure she will look fabulous.
Oh dear. I saw this on a prep service this morning….
Jon Gosselin‘s ex Hailey Glassman is further debasing herself. She’s set to box a porn star named Gina Lynn for the Celebrity Boxing Federation. And to top it off, the fight will be refereed by Joey Buttafuoco.
I loved the People article. I trust People to print truth and accurate quotes, and I’m so impressed with how articulate Kate is.
Did anyone see the artile on MSNBC (http://today.msnbc.msn.com/id/35911253/ns/today-today_entertainment/)where Kendra Wilkinson says Kate shouldn’t be on DWTS? This lady is one of Hugh Hefners ex-girl friends (one of thousands) who has a 3 month old baby. Embedded in the article they had a “vote for your opinion” link. Here’s the results:
“71.3% No. It wasn’t fair. Who is she to be judging anyone? Kate is a working mom and parents have to make tough choices.”
So much for the GWOPers constant statements that “every body hates her” and the whole world just wants her to go away. I don’t for one minute believe that these results would have any affect on their opinions, they have an obsession and need serious mental health care, but it goes to show that they are a minusculeminority of crazies. I go back to a quote from my husband, that he had to memorize when he was at the police academy, “Idle and silly remarks are unworthy of notice and should be completely disregarded.” They are silly and unstable women who seem to neglect any other aspect of life in favor of hours spent criticizing Kate. But there are so few of them, I’m amazed that the media continually defers to their negativity. They never seem to want to report good news, only negative news. Of well, I still have IM for a dose of sanity.
I saw Kendra on Today when she said that. I thought, just wait honey, a few years down the road when/if your reality show is gone and your husband leaves you with another kid or two, you might be trying out for DWTS yourself. Then she said she had left her three month old for three days while on her publicity tour, which a lot of mothers would not do. Just another case of jumping on Kate because it’s the thing to do.
Seriously. I have nothing against Kendra, but what is her problem with Kate? She’s dissed her before. You know what they say about people in glass houses…I’m sure Kate would never pose for Playboy or “date” a man four times her age for money, but you don’t see her talking about Kendra.
