Kate was on “The View” this Wednesday to discuss her upcoming stint on “Dancing with the Stars” and rebuke rumors that she is a diva.
Later Kate co-hosted an interview with Dr. Drew Pinksy and two of his celebrity rehab patients, MacKenzie Phillips and Mindy McCready.
Did you watch? What do you think about Kate’s appearance?

I forgot it was on. Darn! She sounds like she is having fun on DWTS. I’m glad she said that she laughs about all the haters. Glad Jon is spending time with the kids, but it sounds like he still has some growing up to do. I think Kate looks great. I love the hot pink on her.
I thought she did okay, but that was a strange show to have her on. I don’t think she has much experience with addiction.
I was glad they asked her about the diva reports. The negative things they say about her are all so vague. You’d think if she was really so bad, there would be reports of specific things she said or did, not just “she avoided everyone” or “she was so cold”. It reminds me of NotAunt Julie’s report of Jodi thinking Kate was rude to Kelly Ripa. When Kate was later on the Regis & Kelly show, Kelly was very nice to her. Not that Kelly would have been outright rude if she didn’t like her (or maybe she would, I don’t watch that show very often), but I don’t think she would have been so friendly.
I don’t think Kate is a naturally gregarious person with strangers, so if you’re looking for something to criticize her for, I guess you could interpret reticence as coldness. It still doesn’t make her the worst person ever.
I watched it. It was kind of a different show since they were talking about addiction. I thought Kate looked nice. She also seemed to fit right in during the table chatter part.
It was also nice to see her try not to say anything bad about Jon when she was asked if he was helping financially (para). In the People Mag interview, I took it to mean she couldn’t depend on him for their future income, that he’s not reliable in that sense. I wonder if he’s not paying now. He doesn’t seem to be doing much of anything since TLC took him off the tabloid tv. I’m sure Kate will always be there to provide for them. I did think it was nice that Jon tweeted his support for Kate on DWTS (I know I’m late commenting on this). That was good of him.
Oh yeah. It’s nice to see the positive press about Kate. I saw a couple of stories out there. For every good one, there will the rags selling their rumors, the ones who write about Brad and Jennifer getting back together (that one never gets old). But, it’s a nice change to see some stand up for her and say she’s allowed to work and she’s trying to provide for her kids.
The negative things they say about her are all so vague~Kiki
I agree, until she gets charged w/throwing a cell-phone at someone, I’ll keep my opinion of her that she’s just another mom doing the best she can . Making your children wait a bit for water (after she just asked for something for them) and hushing one w/a hand, doesn’t demonize her as a person for me. I’ve mentioned I’ve caught a couple of the J&K shows in the morning. The haters have built her up so much vs what really happened. J&K’s bickering used to get on my nerves, but she didn’t have anyone cowering in the corner for 22 minutes of film. Funny, how they never mention the sweet moments that were there. Of course, these are the people that thought Kate was high-falutin because she used filtered water to make soup.
“people that thought Kate was high-falutin because she used filtered water to make soup”
Hahaha Lily- I love this comment. Thanks for starting my morning off w/ a smile.
People are upset that she practices 6 hrs a day? Ever heard of a 9-5? I’m sick of the moronic assumptions about this woman.
I forgot it was on and missed most of it- wish I had caught the whole thing!
Well, DWTS will be here before you know it. I’m so out of the younger pop culture, I do know who Shannon Doherty is. I’m looking forward to seeing Buzz Aldrin dance too.
I noticed that there is attention on a tweet from Sherri Shepherd that she couldn’t do DWTS and didn’t want to leave her son to be raised by nannies. They do realize that would be a second job for Sherri, right? DWTS would be in addition to The View. Sherri also took on her new show, which I guess failed. I liked it, but I thought it could be better. She was good on it and I think she’s good in everything I’ve seen her in. (I love her on 30Rock and Everybody Loves Raymond) . I thought it was just a random remark. The world only revolves around Kate for those that are obsessed w/hating her. They just wait for her to get slapped down by anyone in the media.
I’ve got a question. Mark Ballas apparently doesn’t care for Kate. I don’t watch DWTS, like I said, I’m out of touch w/the younger pop culture. Does he normally say things like this? Is he beloved on DWTS? I would imagine he has a big fan base. He sounds so mean.
“I’m not the type of person to judge…” dance Mark Ballas told UsMagazine.com of Gosselin at Wednesday’s Drai’s Hollywood grand opening event in West Hollywood. “And I’m not going to be like ‘I don’t like [Kate]…”
But?
“But, I mean, she’s pretty, you know, standoffish, which is kind of weird.”
Ballas added, “She has a great partner, Tony [Dovolani] who is a dear friend of mine, so I’m sure he will whip her into shape. Whatever you can get out of that!”

The Shannon Doherty part is just kind of stupid.
Overall it was a good show, Joy and Whoopi weren’t to snarky
Loved the dress what a pretty color, with spring just around the corner. I got a chuckle when Sherri said your husband and Kate’s face……..she did clarify and say ex. I think she does a great job of never being nasty when any questions arises about Jon, she answers briefly and moves on. That what happens when you divorice, your moving on and what your ex is doing is not really your business for most part except when they are with the kids.
I am not bashing Jon but with his behavior thru the divorce he pretty much shot himself in the foot so to speak. Even if he went back to the computer field, he would have a tough sell with the bad publicity that was generated. Same with Kate going back to nursing, I don’t think any company or hospital wants that type of publicity.
Just my own opinion I think that is why Kate was so stressed out during the divorice and the media attention with Jon, she knew it would affect thier long term future income sources and choices. That is why I think she treats the subject as I am going to be the sole provider, with Jon’s bad reputation at this point it is going to take a while for Jon to remarket himself. I am sure he is providing some type of child support because if he wasn’t that would be in the news. That is why I continue to respect Kate, trying to provide a decent home for her kids.
So, Mark Ballas said “hey” to Kate and she said “oh,hey”? The nerve of that woman!
Is he upset that she didn’t gush over him? Or maybe she didn’t recognize him. Like I said upthread, I don’t think she’s very outgoing in a situation like that. Maybe since she was new to the show, and he is a pro, he should have tried to make her feel more comfortable. Maybe it’s how they normally act during the show, but I don’t see the point of speaking badly of another performer.
Evan Lysacek was on The Bonnie Hunt Show this morning, and he said his partner is travelling with him while he does Stars on Ice. At least Kate’s partner gets to stay in one place.
Kiki, that’s interesting about Evan. I’m starting to pick up on these names some. I guess it just burns them up that Kate gets some star consideration.
I did another search and got this. I fell for yet another rumor. Here’s a tweet from Mark Ballas.
RT @usweekly tells Us that Kate Gosselin is “standoffish” on DWTS set Taken out of context ha ha We havet even been to the set yet
Hope everyone has a great day. I’m waiting for the little one to eat her lunch and then we’re hitting the sun that has been gracious enough to shine on us today. One of the kids was so cute coming out of the school and screaming “It’s Summer!.
i watched the video on abc.com since i don’t get up in time to watch it. lol
i thought she did well. i did think she was somewhat quiet after the first segment but then whoopie was too and even joy. sherri seemed to ask the most questions. i don’t think she had nothing to say. i think she was respectful about a subject she may not have known a lot about and handled herself well.
loved the new hair style and color. lookd so soft…and the pink dress was so stinkin’ cute! didn’t care for the shoes though…lol.
anyone know when and what time and network dwts is on?
Not really sure what to think about the Mark Ballas thing – I don’t know how what he said was taken out of context, so I wish he’d elaborate.
I generally have liked Mark on DWTS; he’s a cutie, that’s for sure. I don’t think it’s appropriate for him to talk out of turn, but, that said…why must so much emphasis always be placed on women being friendly, approachable, non-”standoffish”? Maybe Kate is shy. I know people think that they “know” her and that she’s not, but I also think, from what I know of her, that she’s uncomfortable in unfamiliar situations.
Or maybe she is just standoffish. Unfriendly. Not that interested in forming relationships with people she doesn’t know. Does that make her the Antichrist? Not everyone can be effusive, outgoing, friend-to-everyone. It’s just not in some people’s personalities. Big whoop.
Kimmie, DWTS is on ABC, Monday at 8 and Tuesday at 9 (I think 9; might want to doublecheck that one, though).
Mark didn’t say that he hadn’t said what was quoted, and the cast has gotten together, so I think he’s just backtracking. Besides, I though Kate was “supposed” to be loud, pushy, bossy, demanding, etc., and he’s complaining because she’s the opposite. I wonder, if it were anyone other than Kate, would her personality even be commented on?
Due to Daylight Savings I’ve caught the George Lopez show this week for the first time. He was interviewing Shannon Dogherty about DWTS and suddenly switched to diva behavior. Shannon looked like a deer caught in the headlights but she couldn’t see that he had a picture of Kate on the back screen. I don’t think she figured out that he meant Kate and not her for a couple of minutes. He was busy cracking jokes and laughing all by himself while Shannon maintained a very straight poker face. Eventually he said, so is she really bad? really a diva? tell us all about it? Shannon looked square at him and said, I don’t know, I’ve never met her. It was very uncomfortable. So Mark met her once and Shannon never has.
I’m really thinking all these leaks are nothing but pr to get folks to watch. I do think it’s interesting that the internet funsters have started a big ‘keep Kate on to make haters crazy’ campaign. Do not underestimate the power of that, poor Wozniak was on long past his comfort zone by internet funsters.
Well, who knows if they have all met each other or not. I thought they had. Here is one report that the cast got together for a photo shoot (and they “all” liked Kate).
http://www.usmagazine.com/celebritynews/news/kate-gosselin-everyone-loved-her-on-dwts-set-201033
It does seem as if some of these reports are just drumming up excitement for the show. I think if people are going to watch expecting crazy behavior or a meltdown from Kate, they are going to be disappointed. That doesn’t seem to be what she is going for.
I’m sure all of the dancers & the “stars” are so busy practicing that there isn’t much chit chat. Not likely that they are all going out to dinner w/each other & attending each others’ kids birthday parties. This is another type of reality show. I don’t think it really matters what Mark Ballas has to say about Kate’s personality. Like a previous poster said, maybe Kate is standoffish but that doesn’t mean she’s a bad person. We’re all imperfect!
I enjoyed the opening segment on the View, but the interviews not so much. I personally don’t care for the whole Dr.Drew/addiction thing. To me the whole thing reeks of exploitation and I feel so sad for all involved. If Kate was not on I would have turned it off, I wish it had been a hot-topics hour. I think Kate would have been able to contribute more in that kind of format. Although I may be biased because I often just watch the Hot Topics segment, seems to be the only t.v. time I can get in during the day and even that is rare. I live with tiny dictator’s who feel that if the t.v. is on it should be Disney. I thought Kate was very positive and really admired her ability to avoid bad mouthing Jon. Having been married to a man who’s “poor decision’s” have had a very negative impact on my oldest child, it is sometimes very difficult to take the high-road. I’m still scratching my head as to the criticism over DWTS and really don’t think she need’s to justify it to anybody.
Oh and I also just wanted to mention that as I do not care for Dr.Drew and the rehab idea for entertainment. I will not watch the show, or read about him, or blog about him all day or just be snarky about every little thing he does, say’s and wears. If only all the hater’s could find it in there heart’s to do the same, it’s really not that hard! Just turn off the t.v. and do something positive with your time.
You could say that to everyone posting here, Momsby. It doesn’t make you morally superior because you like Kate. You’re still posting on a message board criticizing those you don’t like.
I’m happy that her kids aren’t on TV anymore but why does she have to be on a show I watch? What happened to her own TV show?
Everyone that watches reality shows have people they love and those they don’t love. I don’t know why some get so carried away about their love/hate relationships with these people. You may believe that Kate is the exception but she isn’t. I read a lot of message boards and there is similar vitriol out there about a lot of reality stars. It goes with the territory. It seems that the “lovers” are more upset about her “haters’ than Kate is. I think she knows that the controversy is what draws in the viewers and keeps her income going. If she wasn’t “hated” she might not be on DWTS. The Entertainment shows sure do seem to play up the controversy. I hope it’s not a trend so that next we’ll see Heidi and Spencer or Russel from Survivor next on DWTS.
If Kate’s celebrity gigs dry up, I’m sure she’ll find something to do to support her kids, even if it is going back to nursing or the corporate world. It’s what we all do when we have kids, figure out ways to get by. It doesn’t have to be as a celebrity.

The purpose of this board is not solely to criticize anyone. Can’t say the same about the Kate-hate boards.
I’m happy that her kids aren’t on TV anymore but why does she have to be on a show I watch? What happened to her own TV show?
I think that this is what is known as a “First World problem.” As to your second question, I think it’s still in the works.
That doesn’t make it right. People are still responsible for the despicable things they have said about her, and for trying to interfere with her livelihood.
If Kate’s celebrity gigs dry up, I’m sure she’ll find something to do to support her kids, even if it is going back to nursing or the corporate world. It’s what we all do when we have kids, figure out ways to get by. It doesn’t have to be as a celebrity.
But why do we as the public get to determine what Kate should do, career-wise? Why do the haters constantly have to harangue her about her career choices? Do you think strangers should determine what YOU do for a living?
Jennie , Thank you for almost reading my mind in reply above:) The on reason I come to this board is that I enjoy reading different opinions without disparaging remarks. I liked that the woman who come here have strong opinions and present their views in a manner that is not offensive to anyone.
I do want to thank the ladies who run this board. I enjoy all the articles that you provide the site. I know that all of you work hard to provide a variety of subjects for us to participate in. Thank you again for a great site!
Thank you Jennie and Diane I could not have come up with a better reply! I realize that we all may have different opinions on what and who we find entertaining. I freely admit it was one of the few shows on t.v. that I watched, no I did not always like some of the things I saw or heard. But I realized it was an edited, glimpse into a family’s real life and to be honoust I saw some of my own flaws in Kate. Yes, Kate is a reality star and with that there is going to be those that like her and those who don’t. However, she is also a REAL person who in the last few years has had a group of people who feel it is their right to destroy her. These people IMO have gone way beyond what is normal, and their continued harrassment is what finally made me express my opinion about a situation and person who I do not even know, for the first time. Maybe because it makes me sad that people and especially other women think it’s ok to treat someone like that, just because they are in the public eye. I don’t like hate mongering, so I gues if that makes me seem like I think I am morally superior so be it.
Also I should add, Donna I in no way assume that you are one of those really nasty gal’s trolling the internet. You may not care for Kate and of course have a right to that opinion. I have a feeling there are a few contestent’s who I may or may not enjoy also. I have heard that they expect the highest rating’s ever for the show so it seem’s that they may continue with the “controversial” contestent trend. I guess we will find out tonight how well it works.
“But why do we as the public get to determine what Kate should do, career-wise? Why do the haters constantly have to harangue her about her career choices? Do you think strangers should determine what YOU do for a living?”
Because she is in the public eye and makes her living on “ratings” the pubic to some degree determines what she will do for a living. The controversy about her helps her in her career and I think she knows it, and I think she plays it up. TLC has certainly played it up. I do believe the “haters are trying to stop her from making a living” is overblown.” Kate has a few “New World Problems” of her own.
Mombsy, thanks, I’m not a troll. I post here occasionally and probably disagree with most here about Kate but I don’t say nasty things about her.
