Yes, you read that correctly. Kmart! I will admit that I rarely ever venture into Kmart anymore and certainly not for any clothing needs. Kmart never really offered much in the fashion department in my opinion. That appears to be changing and Kmart has made over its fall 2010 apparel collection and created Kmart Design. The fall collection is even being featured in the September issues of Glamor and Vogue.
Kathy Huynh, VP of Women’s Apparel Design for Kmart, is also a genuine believer that you don’t have to buy a new wardrobe to be on trend, and creates each season’s worth of clothing based on that very idea.
“We want fresh fashion that’s on-trend but is also understandable and affordable,” explained Kathy. “It’s about buying those few new pieces and incorporating them into your wardrobe to give everything else a fresh lift.”“We want fresh fashion that’s on-trend but it also understandable and affordable. It’s about buying those few new pieces and incorporating them into your wardrobe to give everything else a fresh lift.”
I have looked at their selection and they do appear to capture this season’s trends. All pieces are of course affordable and under $100. This clothing line will be available online and in stores the first week of September.
So what do you think of the new collection? Have you or would you purchase clothes from Kmart?

Not me, I dislike KMart (what’s left of them). I avoid them. None of their lines like Martha Stewart or Jacquelyn Smith have held any interest to me. In addition, when I did run into one every now and then, the stores looked dead, dirty and had only one two checkouts open. I remember them being nice when I was younger (I spent my weekly allowance on 45s at our local one, so that dates when I’m talking about).
Lily,
I am older than you but I also remember Kmart being the only place to really shop that was somewhat affordable. There was Sears and JC Penney but they were more expensive and did not carry the variety that Kmart had.
I don’t live near any Kmart’s currently. When I lived in the suburbs, there was one, but the clothes weren’t the best quality.
I like that they are still around. I certainly want to support an affortable place to shop for clothes. I want the quality to still be there, however. Otherwise, it is not really worth it. I think you are sometimes better off at Marshall’s or another discount place where you can get the higher-end stuff cheaper.
The Bomber jacket is very cool, although it isn’t really my style. I do like the t-shirt a lot! I would wear that with a pair of jeans.
Yeah, the last Kmart I was in needed some updating. Maybe a venture into fashion will revitilize them.
I see a lot of cute stuff at Target but rarely buy because I’m not sure about their quality – my experience has kind of been a mixed bag. You’re not really saving money if something only lasts a few wearings.
I’m fed up with Target (clothes that only last one washing) and WalMart (Never been a fan and they tick me off every time I enter the store). So today I’m starting my boycott of those two and will give Kmart a run…
Dawn,
I actually love this new fall collection. Let us know if you do purchase any of their clothes and how they worked for you.
Kmart is giving away $100 shopping sprees. Just watch this video and answer a question to enter.
This article and items shown are a year old and they still look incredible. The VP of Design is incredibly talented.
