Mother’s Day weekend starts tonight! That’s right, I said WEEKEND. I get to make extra-speacial requests for chores to be done for the next two and a half days, and I will get pleasant responses, “Sure, Mom.”
My plans for the holiday?
-a 5k run/walk on Saturday morning and my teens WILL participate with smiles!
-working in my garden Saturday afternoon.
-a picnic Saturday at my mother’s, with the food provided by my extremely generous and well-loved little sister. She has “treated” the moms in our family to a delicious meal many Mothers’ Day weekends.
-Mass together as a family, and I get to choose the earlier mass instead of waiting for the teens to wake up.
-a special painting I have been promised (fingers crossed!)
-no cooking all weekend long!
What are your plans?

We are going out to lunch today to avoid the crowds tomorrow and also because one on my sons will be working tonight and tomorrow night.
I also plan to get some work done around the house which is probably the norm anyway.
I wish I could be back in Wisconsin to celebrate this weekend with my mom but it just isn’t possible. My sister and one of my brothers will be with her and I know they will make sure the day is celebrated and I am thankful for that.
I am so thankful that I still have my mother in my life. I know that isn’t always the case for someone my age and I so appreciate it. My parents are so supportive of all of their children and grandchildren.
My mom is an amazing person. My father died when she was pregnant with me and had three other children all under the age of five. She drove herself to the hospital when she was in labor with me while my grandmother looked after my siblings. She raised four children by herself for five years until she met and married a wonderful man who became our Dad. She is the stabilizing force in our family and family always comes first with her.
I had such a great childhood. We were just a typical family with not a lot of money but we had everything we needed which was plenty of love. My mother made sure we were involved in church, 4-H, Cub Scouts, among other things and was a volunteer leader in those activities. We always had home cooked meals and our house was neat as a pin.
She is so supportive of us even when we screw up ( I of course am talking about my brothers and sisters and not myself
. )
Love you Mom and Happy Mother’s Day!
We are going down to Haggerstown to visit my in-laws, I always cook for her on Mother’s Day:) She is a wonderful MIL and I truly treasure her. This year she requested my twiced baked potatoes and steak for her special dinner. So last night I made the potatoes and decided to make a crab dip for them also. They love wine so we picked up a couple bottles we thought they might enjoy. The only thing we will have to cook is the steak , which leaves us more time to visit and enjoy our special time with them. I hope all of you have a wonderful Mother’s Day weekend with your families.
Ann, I want to send my child to your Mother’s Day Teenager Boot Camp. You have them trained well!
Pam, your mom just amazes me. I didn’t realize she had driven herself to the hospital while in labor with you. I can see where you get your strength of character from. It is so wonderful that after the hardships, you are lucky enough to all still have each other.
Diane, your dinner sounds really yummy. Hope you have a great time.
Nothing hugely exciting going on here. My mom has passed and my teenager hasn’t yet attended Ann’s Boot Camp, so I don’t what, if anything, she has planned. We do plan to shop for her prom dress this weekend (very last minute, I know). That will be fun for both of us. Assuming we agree (gee, I hope it will be fun.)
I am wondering how the 5k run/walk went with Ann’s family. Isn’t it cold back there?
Diane, that sounds wonderful to me. I am sure your mother-in-law really appreciates the meal and the wine.
Anya, have a great time shopping for that dress. I did not have girls so I never got a chance to do things like that. Let us know how that went.
Beautiful day here. Absolutely beautiful!
Beautiful, beautiful day here, Pam. We had light drizzle for the 5K, but the sun came out at the end. it’s sunny, breezy, and in the 70s now.
Thanks for sharing the comments about your mom, Pam, and mother-in-law, Diane. I like her dinner request: steak and potatoes! that’s Father’s day around here, lol.
Ann, I want to send my child to your Mother’s Day Teenager Boot Camp. -Anya
Guess what? I sent my boy to my mom’s so he can work for her in her yard this afternoon. You know, because it’s Mother’s Day weekend and he just can’t say no. We’ll be down for dinner. hope he’s smiling, because that is all part ofthe gift.
Tomorrow we are doing the annual Komen Walk for the Cure. I wish a cure would be found, lost another friend this year.
I forgot to say Happy Mother’s Day to lovely ladies @ IW
Happy Mother’s Day to all. Missing my mom a bit this weekend.
Jennie, Anya, I am thinking about you and others who have lost loved ones on this day. Like Pam, I appreciate that my mother is still with me. I hope good and loving memories give you strength.
In the church I grew up in, they gave all the women corsages in the color tradition to honor Mother’s Day. White, meant your mom had passed on, yellow meant you had lost a child, and red meant your mother was still living. I thought it was a sweet way to recognize those who had grief in their life and to honor all the moms. We always had a corsage for my mom to wear to church.
We will probably be doing some gardening today. The weather has not been cooperating and so the stuff is still on the porch. One of my sons is coming to take the little one shopping for something for me. She is ever so excited and has been making stuff all weekend. We made the coffee filter flowers, that CraftyMomof3 told us about. They turned out great. We still have to finish some. It’s been fun to watch her and remember how I was so excited to give my mom the stuff we’d made in school. She lasted about 15 minutes after we got home on Friday til she had me open it. I have lots of those handmade treasures in the cedars chests. I won’t be seeing my mom until later this week when my father is in adultcare. She gets to pick the restaurant, but I suspect it will be the same family restaurant we have been going to since I was kid.
Happy Mother’s Day!
Hope everyone had a great Mother’s Day weekend. I know some of you had pretty cold weather. It was beautiful yesterday but cooler today.
Lily,
I saw the picture of the flowers you made and they were beautiful!
Happy Mother’s Day to all…hope you enjoyed the day!
OK, ladies…..it is now time to fess up and start telling about all the special gifts, flowers, and treats you received on your special day.
I’ll start. Mr. Lindsey (borrowed from Mombsy) was on his 48 hrs off cycle and no emergency life flights occurred so that was a blessing. Mr.L, my girls and I prepared Gas House eggs (Mr.L & girls call them “Hole in One”) for my Mom & MIL (dads also) along with lots of fixins. Both G’moms loved the flower bouquets (Hobby Lobby) cards, & letters my girls made for them. Psst, I got the same……..sweet! The G-moms and I all received beautiful Mothers rings. Wow! Then off to my parents & in-laws church. The MD service was special and each mom got a rose. My mom read Proverbs 31 and dedicated it to me and my SIL. Tears a plenty from me & Mr. L. All you Mothers need to go right now and read Proverbs 31. I dedicate it to all of you for yesterday and all the days to come.
All in all it was such a special day, as is today, and hopefully all the tomorrows. My 5′s asked me recently, ” Mommy, will tomorrow be gooder than today?”. Yes, it will if we strive to make it so.
Lindsey,
Sounds like you had a great day. So great when you can spend it with family. Lily’s daughter made those flowers also and left a link in Hobby Lobby to a picture of them. So much fun!
I had a very nice “Mother’s Day Weekend.” We went to lunch, spent time together and watched a movie last night ( Pirate Radio – loved it). One son gave me a beautiful bouquet of flowers and another gave me a 2 lb box of See’s Candies. So I was well taken care of.
By the way, I told my husband about the whole ” Mother’s Day Weekend” thing and he was not buying it.
It is Monday morning and he just asked me if us ladies are now going to ask for a “Mother’s Day Week.” I responded – “What a great idea. Thank you for thinking of that.”
Great idea Pam……….or even better, Mother’s Day every day, at least for a few minutes each day. Agree? My 5′s will be eligible for kindergarten this year and Mr.L & I are looking into, thinking about, maybe home schooling. I’m so on the fence about this. On the one hand I’m thinking they need the structure and interaction and on the other hand I think they get all that at home and at church, and just maybe I’m thinking that it might be nice to just have the 3′s alone for al few hrs. a day. What to do, what to do? Mr. L would not be involved but my parents and in-laws would. Did I mention that I live in Nerdgeekville and that my parents & inlaws are the supreme rulers of this village of the largest concentration of PHD’s in the world.
Should I just turn them over to the Grands and let them have at it? Then I could just be the fun time Mommy after school is out, huh? Ponder these dilemmas for me, please.
Mr. L took pics of the flower bouquets with his digital camera. He has been taking pictures with this camera since shortly after the 3′s were born and I have yet to see the first pic. The card holds 9000 pics and he will not ask for directions (isn’t this a universal man trait). This type of activity will prob be an ancient art form before I see those pictures? SSSSHHH…..I sorta borrow his camera often and take pictures so we fill the card up sooner.
Meanwhile………nice to hear about your MD weekend. I hope others comment about theirs as I love reading this stuff and such.
We had a wonderful time with the in-laws they are such a joy to be around. I told my MIL that I was suprised she didn’t want ribs this year and she said her son didn’t give her that option
So if we go down again I will make her a small batch to enjoy. I told my FIL that I would make him seafood for his Father’s Day dinner as long as it wasn’t $300.00 a pound by then. They both got a chuckle out of that. I dread to see what the seafood prices will be with the gulf spill. The funniest part of the weekend was as we were getting ready I said to hubby why don’t we take down some movies for them. I chose The Blindside and Julie and Julia and my dear MIL calls and leaves a message don’t forget to bring some movies and names the same titles… to funny in my book. It sounds like all of you had a wonderful day and I am so happy to hear that1
:)
Pam I liked that your husband thinks it should be a week’s event
Lindsey, weren’t those flowers fun? I’m sure my little one will be making more this week. I like that much better than the snowflake kick she was on. But the cut out bits of paper sweep up pretty easy.
It’s nice to read that everyone had a good day. Mine was good as well. I still didn’t get to the flower bed, but it was chilly for that. We rode bikes, kicked the ball, had some visits and phone calls. It was a nice day. One of the boys and his gf took my little one out for awhile. They came back w/goodies. The sweetest thing was one of those recordable cards. It’s soo adorable and yes, brought tears to my eyes.
Lily,
Didn’t have any sweep up bits. The 3′s glued every single little cut out piece on to the cards they made for their grams and me. We are a true blue recycling family.
And, yes the flowers were a great time consuming, interacting, and fun time for me & the girls and also for Mr. L and the girls (for me & mine were a suprise). My girls are loving the hobby lobby sites linked. Would you believe all 4 of those little girls are so superior to me & Mr. L on the computer it is laughable.
