Another season of Project Runway ended this week, with designer Seth Aaron Henderson taking top honors. (As an aside, he was my favorite of the designers left, not so much for his designs, which tended to be a little punky for me, but just based on personality.)
You can see the final three collections here. Seth Aaron’s final collection was actually a step up in sophistication from his previous work, while still retaining his rocker edge; I think that was a big factor in his winning. Emilio Sosa’s collection was nice as well (beautiful coats!), but a bit less fashion-forward than Seth Aaron’s (I liked Emilio’s work all season; his personality, not so much – he always seemed to have something negative to say about the other designers and their work). Mila Hermanovski’s work struck me as more of the same from her – lots of black/white/gray (and I wear a lot of black and gray myself, so I shouldn’t complain, but a designer should be able to show her ability to work with color), and a sort of faux-mod 60s feel. I never loved her work because her designs never seemed like they were really made for women’s bodies -they flattered stick-thin models but a lot of them seemed like they would look weird on anyone with curves. Her personality was also less-than-lovable – I think her occasional bitchiness (she rivaled Emilio for always having something condescending to say about other designers in interviews) paired with her sort of dry, low-energy presence made her hard to warm up to. (I should say that neither Emilio or Mila were that unlikable – on the Reality TV villain scale this season really ranked quite low, and that’s fine with me.)
I don’t consider myself a fashionista by any means, but it’s fun to watch a show like Project Runway and judge the designs (I didn’t always agree with the panel!), and I think it has made me a bit more sophisticated and intelligent about fashion.
Take a look at the final collections and tell us what you think! Any favorite pieces? Anything you wouldn’t be caught dead in?

I was glad Seth Aaron won, although I liked a lot of Emilio’s collection. Emilio’s use of color was exquisite. If I had more money (and maybe more self-confidence), I’d would definitely wear some of his stuff.
Self Aaron was just such a sweetheart, however, that I had to root for him and I understand why the judges chose him.
This season was certainly livened up by Anthony. Loved him! And Jay too. I actually wish he had been in the top 3.
I am going to have Tim Gunn withdrawals now…..
I have some friends that are big fans of this show. I had never watched until this season and I caught a couple. It’s an interesting competition. Even if you’re not into fashion (like me), I found the process and the types of challenges they go through were enough to make me watch. I’ve tried to catch a couple, but I came into the season late and was irked that I didn’t know all the pre-history. I think I will watch next season. I looked through some of the final designs via the link and liked what I saw.
Thanks Jennie
I have never watched this show. Looking through the picture slide show I know I really do not like slide 19 from Mila’s collection.
Yeah, that is not a good look. I think Mila tried to make her designs a bit more ragged and less sedate for the final competition, and in the process really made them even less appealing to me than they already were (though she had one piece earlier in the season that was hideous, and I was pissed she wasn’t voted off then; you can see it here: http://www.marieclaire.com/fashion/trends/articles/project-runway-best-and-worst-designs).
Oops, I didn’t realize it wouldn’t go to the exact page. Anyway, it’s a slidshow, and you can go backwards through them – it’s #62.
I liked Emilio’s blue coat- the entire slide show wouldn’t work for me. Most runways looks are…. too outrageous but I thought these were more realistic.
