Super Bowl 2010

Super Bowl 2010

The most happening sporting event of the year is here, NFL Super Bowl 2010. Starting on February 7, 2010 the game goes live at 6:25 PM from Sun Life Stadium, Miami. New Orleans Saints will compete against the Indianapolis Colts for the NFL championship title. This is the first time in history the Saints have made it to the Super Bowl. The Colts will be looking to add a 3rd NFL Championship. Two of the league’s greatest quarterbacks Peyton Manning and Drew Brees will lead their team to win.

Legendary rock band The Who will be performing in the Super Bowl 2010 halftime show. They most likely will be performing a mix of songs including including “Baba O’Riley,” “Won’t Get Fooled Again,” “Who Are You?” (those three make up the C.S.I. theme song trilogy), and “Pinball Wizard.” According to the NFL, 151 million viewers watch the halftime show last year. Reading around the internet I can see that there are quite a few people unhappy with the NFL’s choice for the halftime show. One blogger even wrote that , the NFL wanted to guarantee that – “no matter which teams made the Super Bowl – there would be someone in the stadium older than Brett Favre.” Super Bowl XLIV will be broadcasted in 230 countries world-wide on CBS.

Besides the halftime show, the Super Bowl Ads are another entertaining reason to watch the Super Bowl (especially if you do not like football.) Many people look forward to the television ads as much as the Super Bowl. There is always plenty of controversy surrounding these ads and you can read about one of those controversies here. This year CBS is charging $2.5-million for each 30 second commercial.

Will you watch? Are you planning a party or attending one? Who are you rooting for this coming Sunday? Please feel free to comment here on Sunday about the halftime show and the commercials. Oh…… and of course the game also. ;-)

  1. I’ll watch and if we get all the snow in the forecast it will probably be alone. I loved the pepsi commercial from last year with Bob Dylan and Will I. Am. Hope I get another fav this year. I happen to like the Who, have since I was in college.
no matter which teams made the Super Bowl – there would be someone in the stadium older than Brett Favre.” I think some younger people forget that us “boomers” are what is keeping this country growing and that if it weren’ for us there wouldn’t be any “Who” lol. I really think they are playing it safe and have been since the Janet, Justin fashion malfunction.

  2. Oh buy the way, I will be rooting for the Saints.

  3. I’m a southern girl and I’m gonna have to root for The Saints this time! I do love a good Super Bowl Party but I dont really have plans for one this year. Anyone wanna have me over?

  4. Looks like we will be snowed in for the Super Bowl so no party this year. I always look forward to the commercials. Going to root for the Colts not feeling the love for for the Saints. I even have Monday off so if the game runs late I will be able to sleep in :)

  5. We don’t usually watch, but I think we will this year. I bought stuff to make finger foods similar to what we have for our extended family Christmas party, but it’s only going to be my husband, son, and me. Now’s the time to fess up to having been born and raised in Knoxville, TN, so the affection for the Colt’s quarterback (former Volunteer, you know) is something I just can’t help. It’s even a struggle to root for the Titans when they’re playing the Colts, but I do. Looking forward to the commercials, I think, and The Who (I even liked Pete Townsend’s solo work).

  6. If I bother to look at the TV for the SuperBowl, it’s for the commercials. I’m all for teh half-priced snacks at the grocery store, though. We have a SuperBowl party to attend which will be fun, but a snowstorm is threatening teh mid-Atlantic states and we may not feel like driving through a lot of snow. We’ll see, the weatherman has been wrong before.

  7. I will be flipping between the Super Bowl (go Saints!) and the Puppy Bowl (go puppies!). In theory I want to catch the commercials so that I can discuss them with people; in practice I don’t have the patience to sit through commercials, even cool, funny, ultra expensive ones.

Samantha, you are welcome over for my Super Bowl party! It’s a bit of a trip, but I’m sure it’d be worth it!

    Jennie@IW says:
  8. I am rooting for the Saints all the way. I think their team has accomplished so much and has a lot to be proud of. That said, I think the Colts will probably win. If so, I will be happy for Mary and Diane!

Nothing major planned here either, so I will probably check in during the game on this thread while munching on some sort of finger food. Mozzarella sticks sound yummy right now!

    Anya@IW says:
  9. I ditto Jennie, if I’m watching it’s for the commercials. I normally flip over to catch a couple but run out of patience.

The family that lives across the street from me must be in heaven. Everyone knows them for the 3 blow up Colts football players they keep inflated all the time. My littlest dog has fits when I’m out walking him and they blow in the wind, I think he thinks they will eat him.

  10. I am pulling for the Saints. Loved the Katie Couric interview with Drew Brees and his wife Brittany.

    Pam@IW says:
  11. Keep your hands off my mama

Keep your hands off my Doritos

    So cute!

    Pam@IW says:
  12. Pretty savvy marketing chops on the part of CBS and Letterman (and Leno, who in the public eye has nowhere to go but uphill). The ad was on YouTube soon as it aired, and press stories with CBS’ comments were *obviously* written in advance under embargo. The commercial has done exactly what it’s supposed to–get people talking about the advertised product. Plus it’s rallied Coco’s troops, too!

    Eydie says:
  13. I missed that interview!!! I would have loved to see it. I love Drew Brees! He’s one of my favorite qbs in the NFL. I’m torn though because I want the saints to win but the colts are one of my favorite teams too.
Guess we’ll just see how it goes.

    Erin@IW says:
  14. I like the Who, grew up on their music, they are really “Talking ‘Bout My Generation” but I think it is time to turn the half-time show back to the youngsters.

    Paula says:
  15. I agree Paula. The brought back a lot of good memories. They did well for 65 and 66 year old men. More power to them. Great lighting. However, not a bad idea to have something that younger generations can relate to.

Is it me or do a lot of these commercials suck?

    Pam@IW says:
  16. I liked the Betty White Snickers commercial (with Abe Vigoda cameo!). Other than that, eh.

I’m so happy for the Saints, though!

    Jennie@IW says:
  17. Pam, did you like the Brett Favre Hyundai commercial? That was cute.

Erin, I didn’t know too much about Drew Brees until the Saints made it to the Superbowl, but he sounds like a great guy who has certainly been through a lot this year.

Sean Payton showed a lot of guts.

Happy for the city of New Orleans!

    Anya@IW says:
  18. I am not one for watching football. But way to go Saints!! What a game!!

    Glad they won!!

    Mary says:
  19. I loved the little boy in the Doritos commerical and Betty White for Snickers! Go Saints!!!

    Samantha@IW says:
  20. Watched and rooted for the Saints, they were certainly due! It’s nice to see the city of New Orleans come back. I think Mardi Gras starts early this year!
I was also happy to miss the political pro life or whatever, commercial. That is significant to me because it’s the first political or religious commercial and it opens the door, everybody in, ugh. Let’s just watch and see who else thinks they need to blow some horn next year.
I loved the commecial of the robot, sock monkey and monster who are fantasizing about their exciting life and you see it’s some toys on the back seat of a car! hilarious. I didn’t catch the car though I assuem it was some type of Hyundai. Toyota must be kicking themselves.
So sweet to see Drew Brees up there with his baby – in those giant ear guards. Kind of dangerous to have a child on their field in that mayhem but he didn’t look afraid. Some day he’ll love seeing that footage of himself. I did feel sorry for Payton Manning, my goodness he looked like his dog just died or worse. For every team that is elated by winning someone has to feel horrible. But it was a great game. Very clean and nicely done, both teams seemed to deserve to be there and it was no rout.

  21. Seeing the Who play and poor Pete Townsend have to bellow out a line he used to do in one breath, in four breaths, made me feel old. I saw them 30 years ago. Wow. And his outfit was so silly but it did remind me of going clubbing and dancing to Boy George’s Karma Chameleon in San Francisco way back when.

    SadStateofAffairs says:
  22. I just watched the Betty White/Abe Vigoda commercial for Snickers. That was great. I love her. I saw her on Kathy Griffin w/Kathy’s mom and she was hilarious. I was kind of disappointed in The Simpson’s one. I expected more.

    Lily@IW says:
  23. Loved the Betty White one! I met her about 20 years ago when she was in St. Louis for a Delta Society (service dog/therapy dog) convention. Nice nice lady!

I also loved the Dodge Charger one!
