This is one of the best “adult” comedies I’ve seen in a very long time. It’s raucous and rowdy, brassy and bawdy, without being crass, sophomoric and, well, stupid. The writing is top-notch and the plot is not just plausible, but very relate-able. There are twists and turns, and the ending probably isn’t what you’re expecting. At several points, the audience was laughing so hard you couldn’t hear the rest of the scene’s dialogue!

Oh, and the good news: all the best parts are NOT in the trailers! Halle-freakin’-lujah!

The cast has the kind of chemistry directors must dream of. But how can you go wrong with Meryl Streep, Steve Martin and the most devilish of the Baldwin brothers?! I’ve noticed a trend in movies lately, with veteran actors seemingly phoning in their role. A sort of resting on their laurels. Fortunately, there’s none of that here. Everyone is at the top of their game. Special mention for John Krasinski (Jim from The Office) as the soon-to-be son-in-law. He adds SO much to this movie, even if he’s part of the secondary ensemble. The movie would be lacking without him. Kudos Jim…er… John!

Some of my very favorite parts were the scenes with Meryl and her girlfriends. I would love a movie of just that!! Real girl-talk at it’s funniest and most honest. So brilliant!! It left me wanting more and more. It’s nearly 2 hours, which is pretty long for a comedy. But you don’t want it to end!!

My overall review: Smart, witty, racy and rip-roaringly funny, this one sets the bar by which all future comedies will be measured.
