PG-13: one scene involving brief violence, drug and sexual references

Bring an extra large box of Kleenex, this is definitely a three hanky experience.

This is based on the true story of Michael Oher. Sandra Bullock and Tim McGraw play Leigh Anne and Sean Tuohy, a wealthy southern couple who take in the homeless black teen. Kathy Bates is exceptional (as always) as his tutor.

2012 – Who Will Survive?

By Tiffany

Opened November 13, 2009 | Runtime: 2 hr. 38 min.
PG-13: intense disaster sequences and some language

Well, I think we’ve watched enough disaster movies to have a pretty good idea of who survives. Though there are some surprises in that aspect too. But they have to be right. That’s part of the whole disaster end-of-world movie making formula. And yes, the writers/producers/directors followed that formula. The reason for that is quite simple: it works. Armeggedon, Deep Impact, The Day After Tomorrow – they all built on each other in magnitude and scope, but they all follow the same basic blueprint.

Amelia – Does it soar or crash and burn?

Written by Tiffany

Opened: October 23, 2009 | Runtime: 1 hr. 51 min.
PG: some sensuality, language, thematic elements and smoking.

The one thing I think everyone agrees on: Hilary Swank is a dead ringer for Amelia Earhart (no pun intended!) I mean, WOW! It’s almost eerie (and so appropriate for it’s pre-Halloween release!) I suppose she sounds just like her too, not that I am an expert on Amelia Earhart’s speech and dialect.

Motherhood

Written by Tiffany

Opened October 23, 2009 | Runtime:1 hr. 30 min.
PG-13: language, sexual references and a brief drug comment

Motherhood is a slice of life movie. It chronicles a day in the life of Eliza Welch (played by Uma Thurman), a stay-at-home mother of two and writer of the mommy-blog “The Bjorn Identity” (why didn’t I think of that?!) It starts with Eliza waking in the still dark morning, shuffling out of bed, checking on her still sleeping children, snapping a picture of her daughter, making a cup of coffee, and sitting down in her office to write her blog. Hmm… I don’t know about you, but switch out the coffee for tea (and “office” for my bed) and that describes my morning to a T.

What’s a director to do when the big, shocking climax of the movie is already known by everyone who’d want to see it?

SOMEONE TELL ROMEO THAT JULIET’S ONLY SLEEPING!

Written by Jennie

Recently I listened to two friends have a conversation/argument over whether Jack from “Titanic” could have survived if Rose had shared her little raft with him when they were in the water waiting to be rescued. One argued that it was at least possible that he *might* have. The other insisted that it would’ve only led to both of their deaths; they would’ve each had to be at least partly in the water, which would have quickly led to hypothermia and death.
