Kate Gosselin has a new post up on Coupon Cabin and she is sharing tips on how she makes Valentine’s Day special in her house.

This year she will be making each one of her eight children a special handmade card from a craft set she picked up at Target. In addition she makes the day special by preparing foods with a Valentine “theme.”

“I also make all meals heart themed. In the past, I have made heart shaped pancakes, sandwiches and hamburgers! This year I’m thinking I’ll make heart shaped muffins for breakfast, heart shaped peanut butter crackers for lunch and heart shaped pasta for dinner!”

Although Valentine’s Day is typically considered a day of romance, Kate revealed that she won’t be spending it out on a date – “And, in case you’re wondering, you won’t find me out on a date this Valentine’s Day. My date is with my 8… They own MY heart!”

Kate Gosselin also tweeted a cute picture of a few of her kids quizzing each other for an upcoming spelling test with the caption: “Adorable is… Catching 7 year olds who are ready for school, quizzing each other on spelling words while they wait..”  That is one of the many benefits of having so many siblings in the same grade – lots of study partners!

According to Fandango, this is “a film about 10 people in Los Angeles whose lives intersect on the romantic holiday.” You’ve got a couple celebrating 51 years together, an elementary age boy who is “love sick”, and everything in between.

I expected to like what I figured would be a very predictable and cliche rom-com, ’cause basically I like these kinds of movies. What I didn’t expect was how funny, and unexpected it would be. The story-lines do not go the traditional route by any stretch of the imagination. The surprises are fun and will catch you off-guard. It’s a feel good about love kinda movie.

I especially loved the ways in which all the stories and people intersected with each other. Some sweet, some funny, some touching. Excellent writing. I thought this was a well thought out movie, carefully orchestrated (and speaking of orchestrated, look for the director Gary Marshall to make a quick appearance as part of a string trio towards the end of the movie.) Quite a few actors make quick, one scene flash-in-the-pan appearances and then are gone. This movie really keeps you guessing!

I think my favorite scene is Jessica Biel’s I Hate Valentine’s Day party. Jennifer Garner has quite an arm, don’t piss her off!! I am inspired to buy a giant pink heart-shaped pinata and beat the ever loving candy out of it! Valentine’s Day when you’re very very single (like I am) sorta sucks. So I guess it’s a really big testament to this movie that I liked it as much as I did!!

And a brief mention: don’t leave before the end credits start to roll. There’s a short take out reel that is possibly the funniest part of the movie!!

My overall review: they got this one right! Valentine’s Day is the perfect rom-com date night movie! Sure you can save it for Netflix, but then you won’t see it til summer. And that’s totally missing the point!

Flowers, chocolate, candles, moonlit walks with the perfect man. Valentine’s Day. The one day each year that all of our romantic dreams come true…… or not. Actually….. Valentine’s Day is often a huge let down. Maybe it’s because of high expectations…… or sometimes because we’re so desperate for a date on Valentine’s day that anyone will do. Not that I speak from experience or anything. Sometimes it’s because our idea of what Valentine’s day should be isn’t the same as his idea.

I will always remember my first Valentine’s day with my husband. Looking back, its hard not to laugh. (Not at him, at myself.) He gave me a card and a 4 foot teddy bear. Surely the bear wasn’t the gift. I just knew there was a treausre waiting for me in the card….. no. Maybe hidden in the heart the bear was holding? No. What was I supposed to do with a giant teddy bear? Where would I store it? I didn;t hide my disappointment very well. I’m not sure what I was expecting exactly but that wasn’t it. We hadn’t made dinner reservations and we couldn’t get in anywhere. We finally found a place that was still taking names- after 2 hours we were seated.

Now we make dinner reservations in advance- followed by a movie. We’re home by 10 . We exchange cards and that’s enough.
