PG-13: some violence and action
Be ye Twihard, Twilighter, Twilover or Twichotic, you are going to be over the moon thrilled with the latest chapter in the Twilight saga.
The kinks and awkwardness of the first movie seem to be worked out. The acting, I am SO happy to report, is infinitely better. Kristen Stewart finally got the blinking and stuttering under control. That Taylor kid is excellent. Just WOW – and I’m not just talking about his six-pack either (though HELLO… wait, he’s the same age as my son… ewww… never mind!) He’s convincing, sympathetic and sincere. Perfect casting. Excellent young actor. Dakota Fanning totally embodies Jane; she is pure evil. Brilliant. The Volturi are appropriately frightening and European (which can also be frightening!) Unfortunately, RPatz still looks constipated; hopefully they’ll up his fiber intake by the time the cameras start rolling on Eclipse.
Can I just say how much better I thought this one was than Twilight? I’ll admit it, I loved Twilight despite thinking it wasn’t a really great movie. It’s almost uncomfortable to watch, like an indy in inexperienced hands. You can see and feel the potential, but its not quite there. Though, I think that in itself is actually part of its charm. It FEELS like the teen angst it’s portraying. So, in that sense, it works. But the acting. OMG. Blink. Stutter. Blink. Stutter. Think Real Hard. Grimace. Blink. Stutter. Thank goodness New Moon isn’t just part two of the same.
New Moon feels like a real movie. It flows so much better. The editing is amazing. The way some of the sequences are spliced together adds such a depth to what could otherwise have been long and boring scenes. It’s over 2 hours, and yet it moves with a beauty and precision that makes it feel much shorter. There’s also a richness to it I’m finding hard to describe. Twilight almost felt like it was filmed on a set. New Moon feels vast and real. The cinematography is stepped up, you can feel the cold and wet of Forks right through the screen. As well as the green and earth and ocean. It’s just more THERE.
The things I didn’t like about Twilight are what I do like about New Moon. The rough patches have been smoothed over and it’s quickly becoming a well oiled machine. If they keep going in this direction, Eclipse is going to be amazing and Breaking Dawn will blow us all away.
My overall review: Awesome. Duh! If you love Twilight, you’ll love New Moon. If you don’t get what all the fuss is about, go see 2012!

I will have to confess, another movie I had not heard of until just recently. I do not get to the movie theater enough to see upcoming releases and with DVRs I miss quit a few commercials advertising new movie releases. Hopefully I will be able to see these movies on Netflix.
I really do miss going to movies. There is just something about the whole experience including eating popcorn and some type of candy ( usually my choice is Red Vines.) Hopefully my husband and I will go over the long Thanksgiving weekend.
Now which one to pick from? Tiffany, of all the movies that are out there right now, which one would you recommend that we go to? We enjoy a variety and are pretty open minded.
The Twilight Saga:New Moon is really nice. I watched it with my sibling Nick. He is really a fan of Twilight. He watched it with open mouth. I cant just say this is a good movie. For me this is a really fantastic one. I liked it . I have a bet with my friend for the Twilight movie. She said the Twilight Saga:New Moon will not be mega hit and i told her it will. I bet it will became a mega hit.
My 22 year old daughter introduced me to the book this past summer. I really enjoyed reading them. While at the beach I saw women of all ages reading them also. I saw the first movie on DVD with my daughter and enjoyed it. I probably wouldn’t go to the theater to see it, but she called me yesterday and asked to make a movie date with me the weekend of Thanksgiving to see New Moon. A day to spend with my daughter, you betcha, I’ll be going to the theater.
Pam,
New Moon is for fans of the book/series. If you haven’t read them, then I don’t think you’d necessarily enjoy the movie (at least, not as much as the rest of us!)
If you really love action/adventure than 2012 is definitely a not-to-be-missed one. The kind you have to see in a theater for the full effect.
Disney’s A Christmas Carol is a really great family movie.
Pirate Radio is a quirky, weird, very British, almost independent type film (I don’t know that it is, it just feels like one) with an AMAZING soundtrack and wonderful cast (Phillip Seymour Hoffman, Kenneth Branagh, Bill Nighy and a hilarious appearance by Emma Thompson!) My 13 year old son and I loved it. It got terrible reviews by “the critics” and I don’t know why. The theater was packed and I’d say the average age of the audience was somewhere in the 40s and there was a lot of laughing and applause (which you don’t hear DURING movies anymore.)
I’m going to see The Blind Side tonite (Sandra Bullock, based on a true story) and I think that looks REALLY promising.
We’ve got a line up of movies opening this Wednesday: The Road, Fantastic Mr. Fox and Old Dogs. And then December… my kids might not be getting much in the way of Christmas this year. “Sorry, Mom went to the movies!”
Thanks Tiffany,
I think we will try and see 2012 soon but The Blind Side looks very interesting also. Boy you will be busy with all of these movies. I really don’t know how you keep them all straight.
