Some of us knew from the time we were very young what we wanted to do when we grew up. Others are still trying to figure that out.
What job do you dream of having? Does your current job come close to that?
Is there a job out there that you would just like to do for fun that you know would not make you a whole lot of money but you would have a great time doing ? Like dog walking or wine tasting?

My dream job is a Travel Sales Consultant specializing in Resorts around the world. I would be the one going to different resorts and writing up the quality of the resorts for magazines and brochures of the best places to travel. I went to school for this but dropped out for marriage and motherhood. The perks of this job is basically free vacations. I so wanted to do this!!
Darlene, that is best idea ever. Everything else pales in comparison. Free vacations + writing for a living = dream job for sure!
Looking back, I don’t know that I ever had a clear idea of my “dream” job would be. I wound up in Human Resources, but it was really just chance – in the right place at the right time. There are many things I like about the job (job security and good paycheck being in the forefront), but deep down I don’t consider it my dream job.
I have always thought working in a hotel, perhaps as a Catering Manager, would be interesting, but I am sure there are plenty of people who would tell me I am crazy. I would imagine the perks are offset by crazy hours and unreasonable customers.
I have also dreamed of working at a university. I’d love to be involved in the English or History departments. Not sure I can see myself as an actual instructor, however.
At one time, because of my background in Benefits, I thought it would be rewarding to serve as an advocate for people dealing with complex issues with health insurers, but I don’t think there is any real money to be made there.
I guess I am still searching….!
I think I would like to be an editor working for a big New York publishing firm and getting to decide which clients I would take. Reading good books all day and calling it work certainly sounds like a dream…
Other than that, something with animals would be a dream for me. Not vet, because I don’t think I could deal with the sick animals.
If someone would pay me a living wage to pet-sit, and I could get enough clients to making a living, that would be a dream job!
I recently read about the dream job, “Television Consumer”. I sure wouldn’t mind being paid to have that on my business card, lol.
I love what I do and think I picked the right profession, teaching. I have been talking to a lot of high school grads recently, and am a little jealous that they get to start out with a fresh pursuing their dreams. The careers I heard about that really interested me: wildlife naturalist, copper mining research, speech/language therapist. I also want to be an archaeologist when I grow up. One of my girls expressed an interest in this. I told her that I will be visiting her at the museum, looking over her shoulder while she works, dusting off the dirt, uncovering her treasures. I also plan on staying past visitors’ hours and touching everything in the museum.

I’m 28 & still trying to figure this out! I started college as a speech pathology major but along the way ended up with a degree in social work. After a couple years in child welfare & working in a nursing home, I decided a school counselor was what I wanted to do- so on to grad school I went. My husband is in the Army so I had to stop half way through due to a location change. Not so sure the school system is a good place to be due job/budget cuts out the wazoo lately!
So lets see, I’d like to be a hair stylist 2 days a week, an interior designer 2 days a week & teach aerobics the other day while still having my weekend! That’s my dream job!!!
These are great jobs. Darlene, I love your dream job. Jennie, I want to get paid to watch tv too. I would also do quality checks for the finer chocolatiers.

Jennie, at our dog’s summer camp (kennel) she is signed up for something called “snuggle and a snack.” That would probably be a good fit for you. Snuggling cats and dogs and giving them treats. Unfortunately, that dream job does come with other duties.
I’m willing to clean poop for the chance to snuggle and snack!
Hmmmm – a wine taster would be nice – just think, you’d be happy and buzzed while getting paid for it!
A restaurant/food critic – I’m a foodie and would love to be a secret food spy!
Speaking of secret spy – I wouldn’t mind being paid to do fun (not dangerous) detective work!
All in all – I do love my job as an editor. I’m blessed to been given the opportunity to work from home a few days a week during down time so I can be a mom – the job I do love the most!
I would love to work on a ranch. Anywhere that I could be around and riding horses and my dogs could run free.
Ann, I believe the job of “Television Consumer” is a 24/7 gig. No time off and you must post on the internet not less than 150 times a day. I don’t know about the pay, but it sounds exhausting!

Poke, I like your idea of having a combination of part-time jobs that fulfill different interests. Good way to keep from getting bored and stuck in a rut.
Yes, yes, I like the travelling job. I also like the idea of having several jobs that cover a variety of interests like eating, getting paid to shop, watch TV, test products. I would like a job where I can bring my family and one where we would be doing something good for people and/or the environment.
I don’t know what my dream job is yet. I am 26, married with no children and times are so hard that I couldn’t finish college. My husbands on unemployment, Im working part time at home and we barely make ends meet but manage with my Colonel like strategy with budgeting. I want to do so many things such as work with a professional organizor company, write my own book, do small business administrative work from my home and the list goes on. Life is so hard now days especially with my living situation and the trials I am faced with. But I know with faith, blessings will come somewhere somehow. What do you think?

I think that you will probably be just fine. Just keep on doing what you are doing and things eventually will turn around.
Writing your own book is something you certainly can do without having a lot of money. That is one goal I would probably keep focused on.
