It’s a busy day for Kate. She’s at that California women’s conference instead of at the courthouse. Jon’s lawyer’s reaction to the news that she’s not there is hilarious, and makes no sense.
http://www.etonline.com/news/2009/10/80125/
She shouldn’t throw stones because she lives in a glass house, not a shoe? How is not being at the hearing, throwing stones?
Oh please, these will all be soft ball questions and all her answers will be the “I am a single mother who is struggling to raise these children by myself” blah blah blah.
Willing to bet this whole Q & A show is staged, questions read beforehand, Kate is given the correct responses by her PR team….
So fake, so rehearsed, so very Kate.

Thanks Kiki, I was wondering if there was any video out there of the court stuff. What a horrific acting job that Heller did. The stop and surprised shock that Kate might not be there. There was no reason for her to appear in court. He would know that she wasn’t necessary and often happens. They would know she’s at the conference. Kate was not ordered to appear and had her attorney there to represent her. She didn’t shirk or neglect anything. What a stupid dig at Kate and I agree, it made no sense. He and Jon talk just alike. There’s very little for Jon to throw at Kate, so I guess that’s all they come up with..a bunch of nonsense w/a nursery rhyme mixed in.
Heller is not even representing Jon in the divorce. How will Jon find a lawyer in PA to dance to the strings that Heller is pulling?
Since Heller can’t represent Jon in PA or in MD, what purpose is he serving, except for making Jon look more ignorant than he already is? Now that Jon’s PA lawyer has once again resigned, it will be interesting to see who he can find (or dig up) to represent him and how much longer that will delay everything.
I feel quite certain that if Kate had been required to be in court this morning, her attorney would have made sure that she was….

yep…and yep!
i agree if kate was supposed to be there she would have been. she has been complying legally all along.
also i just heard on cnn that jon says kate still hasn’t accounted to him for the money she used from that account. the thing is she wasn’t ordered to account TO HIM but to the arbitraitor…which she did early last week. if jon wants to know i think he should have to find out from the arbitraitor.
i think this says it all…lolol especially the bolded part.
Mark Heller, Jon’s New York based attorney, says he’s not sure how he will handle the issue of the missing $33,000 in cash withdrawals, to which Kate’s attorney Mark A. Momjian responded to RadarOnline.com: “Mr. Heller can say whatever he wants to say, but he is not Mr. Gosselin’s attorney in the state of Pennsylvania and does not represent him in this divorce action. The judge found that Kate Gosselin gave a full and complete accounting of the monies spent on household bills and other necessities and that was all she was required to do.”
the rest of the article was good as well…
Jon is currently without a lawyer, as his Pennsylvania counsel, Charlie Meyer resigned from Gosselin’s employ as of Monday.
“Kate provided a full and complete accounting of the $55,000 she spent on household expenses and is now in full and complete compliance with the court order,” Kate’s attorney, Mark Momjian,
As for Kate, the judge found her in compliance, after her attorney provided receipts for nearly $60,000 that Jon claimed she had taken during the same time frame. Jon said that another $33,000 was unaccounted for, to which Kate’s lawyer said the court didn’t require such an accounting.

What do you expect? A live show with an audience full of gwoppers armed with rotten fruit? It’s a taped, edited tv show. I doubt the questions will all be “soft ball”, but I also doubt any of the rude, nonsensical questions sent in by the haters will be addressed. Why would they be? You seem to expect that Kate has some duty to open herself up to the bilious hatred of strangers. I don’t get that.
Jon’s “friend who happens to be a lawyer” can spin things anyway he wants. The court did not hold Kate in contempt or admonish her for anything so, therefore, I believe she is in full compliance with all legal requirements.
It appears that Kate does care enough about the kids to recognize she might need to look for work that does not involve TV. Kate has renewed her nursing license in the state of PA.

I wish Jon was talking steps to support the kids that did not involve selling pics to paps.

LOL.. that probably wouldn’t even satisfy them.
Jon’s Lawyer is a dumb ass pretending Kate wasn’t going to be in Court this morning. Everyone who knows anything about Kate knew she was scheduled to be in Long Beach today for the Woman’s conference and sent in her stuff for court so she didn’t have to cancel her appearance if not she would have been there. I haven’t watched the Kate plus 8 since the summer but I’ll probably watch the show tonight with all the Gwoppers who can’t seem to be able to change the channel from TLC and were forced to watch. Interesting!!
Jon truly needs some help, personal and legal, if he thinks this smuck is helping him in anyway. Jon helped to create those kids that live in that shoe with Kate. Did you see him…. see Jon smirking like a teenager and someone said boob as his “lawyer” so professionally spoke his nursery tales. Geeze, I don’t know what she ever saw in him. Kate may be a B, controlling or whatever you want to call her, but wow, Jon is truly a boy trapped in a balding man’s body. I used to like Jon, think he was just going through a phase. That lawyer looks like a creepy creepy man.
“So fake, so rehearsed, so very Kate.”

so good to hear…i mena the ladies at gwop are really really worried about that license of hers expiring…
yeah i wish jon had a marketable skill…except for friending the paps…
i liked the show…and did you hear her say she wants to be in a movie and do a cartoon voice over? how cool is that. i think she’d make a great voice over actress as she does have a great voice.
I loved the show. They were more current questions, and she answered them well. She didn’t sound rehearsed. I found her rather pleasant today. I didn’t expect to like it, but the past clips with the kids, and Kate’s easygoing responses hit the mark. I was ready to cringe because she could have easily taken a few shots at Jon and others, but she didn’t. Dare I say it? Her answers bordered on witty and classy.
Her best line was one she said quickly, but I thought made an impact: “I have to answer to these kids someday.” She was talking about whether the show was harmful to them, why she kept the show going, etc. She convinced me that she felt it was a positive experience for them.
Another good response: She was genuinely kind and thankful to the crew that stuck by her. She made a big deal out of their trustworthiness, and the lesson the kids learned from that. She didn’t mention those who turned on her, which also impressed me.
If you’ve given up watching regularly, and it hasn’t aired yet, watch tonight (like Darlene!) She’s never addressed some of the issues we discuss here quite so well as she did tonight, IMO. I wonder if people saw it differently than I?
By the way, my family watched again tonight. Kate got a few laughs from us. At one point she said, “No one is harder on me than myself.” Kate, you have no idea how hard they can be on you.
I really enjoyed the episode, and hope that they can find some peace somewhere.
I think that Kate is in a no-win situation…..Jon’s attorney BLASTED her for not appearing in court, however, fans, Women’s Conference attendees and fans who waited at the book signing would rip her a new one if she didn’t appear at THOSE events.
Her attorney represents her and I THINK that IF he felt that her presence was required, she surely would have backed out of her previous commitments and appeared in court.
Thanks Paige for the new info about Kate’s nursing license. It’s just IMO one more classy, responsible move on her part. Still up here at the hospital w/ my nurses in and out, I only got to watch the first half of the show tonight however after reading y’all’s comments I’m looking forward to the second half. I really loved what I saw so far and was pleasantly surprised by the way that she answered the more difficult questions w/such grace. I genuinely believed what she had to say about the vow renewal, etc., especially thinking back to all she had to say about wanting to preserve their marriage when she took Jon to Key West on his 30th b-day. Watching pieces of their vow renewal tonight, I felt that she really tried HER BEST at the time to make it work. I still think that there are “private things”/”deal breakers” on Jon’s behalf that she’s continued to shield from the public. WOW! Wouldn’t the GWOPpers just flog me tonight for my support of Kate?!! Oh Well-maybe it’s the anesthesia from my surgery today making me take such a risk! ha!
Even though I’m sure Kate was well rehearsed (and I don’t believe the episode was being promo’d as offering answers to spontaneous questions), she did come across more natural answering the questions. I only saw about 10 minutes of the show, but caught the question about what household help she has. Now, just to be clear, I don’t have any problems with Kate having help. I think the reasons she gave for needing help are solid. However, I’m surprised that she didn’t mention having someone come in to help her with the cooking. John admitted on EW about a month ago that craft services was just another name for chef (just like full time babysitter is another word for nanny), so why not answer with all the help you have?
And while I do believe that part of Kate’s motivation to continue with the show is to provide for her children, every time I hear Kate say she’s doing it for the children, I think back to the People magazine article where Kate states that this is the career she’s worked very hard for and no one will take it away from her. There was no mention of the benefits of the show for her kids then, and currently I think the person benefiting most from the show is Kate.
sue i think kate has food services on the filming days only. and since they aren’t filming anymore then i guess no food services are needed. i also don’t think it was just for kate and jon and the kids. i think tlc provided food services when filming for their crew as well.
i agree ann she seemed very classy and witty and i think she has grown a lot as a person. i liked when she said *i can laugh at myself* and i think she really can. she seems very self-confident.
Sue, I see your point of view, but I think the show isn’t going to go on, and if it does, yeah, Kate benefited by it. She was smart enough to realize she needed a job to provide for all eight, and a way to do it that keeps her with them (except for the traveling portion, which I’m sure she wasn’t aware of in the beginning). The benefits she listed about the opportunities the kids would not have had otherwise
You’re right, I do think she was rehearsed, but anyone is rehearsed when they do a Q&A show. So, once again, kudos to Kate for making it sound as natural as she did. And, that’s a big plus for her…that factor of smoothness and ability to handle circumstances while being in control… to have as a host, something she wants to do.
Yes, Kimmie, that is correct. They mentioned previously that food services are provided for the family and the crew. So, while they’re being fed the pastry spread that other shows or movies sets have, they are being fed a nutrious meal (hey, after all, these are kids who need their nutrition, as well as adults), sure, a cook/chef is doing the cooking. Nice swipe from bitter Jon in that chef remark. I really could care less if she admits having a cook or not, I always thought the craft services cook issue was null because it was a given that a cook was there.
I don’t think her voice is great…yet…in time it will be…with more voice lessons and I think she’d do a great job at a cartoon voiceover. This lady has so many options and opportunities ahead of her. I hope she grabs each and every one of them and succeeds at each.
I should really proofread…
Meant to say….So, while they’re not being fed the pastry
So is the show done for good? Is that final? Is the whole “Kate Plus 8″ idea out the window too?
I think TLC can’t flm the kids against their father’s will so I expect Kate +8 will be out the window. Let TLC pursue the project with Kate.
I was glad to hear there is substantial money set aside for the kids. From her answers last night, it apears that one thing Kate has been doing if getting the continuing education credits she needed to renew her nursing license.
Overall, I found her fun to watch. Rehersed or not, she came aross as real to me. Things like with the high heels -”let’s face, tall makes you look thinner.” And talking about who she would wait in line 7 hours for – Patrick Dempsey.
So it appears Jodi and Kevin wil be on CBS this morning. I am sure they will slam Kate, speak about what a wonderful father Jon is, and tell us that the kids told them they hate filming.
That’s it Paige. She is real and that is so appealing to producers. She hits a few different demos. That is also appealing to producers of a show.
I liked the shoe answer too. And, the one I also liked was when she said she dresses better because it’s an example to her kids to see mommy looking good.
So it appears Jodi and Kevin wil be on CBS this morning. I am sure they will slam Kate, speak about what a wonderful father Jon is, and tell us that the kids told them they hate filming.
No, they didn’t. Instead, they are joining with Gloria Allred to push for national laws to protect the working children of ALL reality television programs. Nobody slammed anyone at all.
The Early Show segment with Jodi and Kevin was very positive, and hey, if they succeed in getting new federal laws to protect kids, great. I do think the people who thought the timing of their visit with the kids was a little suspicious were also right. They mostly talked about that visit, and said it was as if the kids “hadn’t skipped a beat” since the last time they saw them. To me, that actually seems to support what Kate says…the kids are extremely well-adjusted.
I think the fact that they are doing this now, during the divorce and all the hoopla, is a slam to Kate. People were wanting Kate to answer the “tough” questions in her Q&A, well how about somebody asks Jodi & Keving some tough questions. Like, would they still be opposed to filming children if they had been paid to be on the show, why did they spread Jon’s lies about Kate and what did that have to do with helping the children, what is the extent of their involvement with GWoP? I’m sure people can come up with more.
http://www.cbsnews.com/video/watch/?id=5424302n
And, in a shallow note, what is Jodi wearing around her neck?
what is the extent of their involvement with GWoP?
Kiki, me too! I think there’s a story there that negates everything that comes out of Kevin and Jodi’s mouth in regards to J&K+8.
I am watching Kate’s Q&A right now (love my DVR), I really like this side of Kate, she has a great sense of humor and can laugh at herself.
I was not suprised about the amount of help Kate has, its not nearly what the GWOPer’s would like people to believe. It would be difficult for her to maintain all the property and large home on her own and her reason for having a nanny makes sense.
Regarding the Kreiders and Allred on The Early Show…
I think the fact that there may be legislation to protect kids in reality tv is a good thing. I just wish this appearance had been the first one Jodi and Kevin had ever done, and, like, a year ago, if this has been their singular concern all along.
I would say for the general public, the Kreiders joining forces with Allred, especially in the wake of the Heenes’ behavior, would look pretty linear logically. But, for those of us who are more intimately aware of the questionable motives of the Kreiders themselves (and their obvious ties to INSANE bloggers), this morning’s more rational tv appearance is a long time coming and feels too much like an afterthought.
And…it does seem like in this morning’s interview Kevin *couldn’t* make a connection between general concerns about kids on reality tv needing protection and the emotional health of the Gosselin kids. I don’t think they quized the kids about how they felt about no long filming while visiting this past weekend, but it’s obvious the Kreiders felt their nieces and nephews weren’t changed much by their experiences of the last year or more, i.e., the “picked up right where we left off” commentary. None of them, Jon included, have really stated any particular examples of how the Gosselin kids have been harmed.
The only thing Jon has said (finally) was that the kids shouldn’t be filmed during their divorce as a specific example of possible harm. While I agree with this concept, had Jon been saying this, and stopped the filming, in May or June, this sentiment would have had a little more “bite” to it. Other than that, he only seems to want the show off the air.
Question. Why wasn’t Jon sitting there with Jodi, Kevin and Allred?
My answer. Because I think Jon would have problems getting behind the whole “reality tv is harmful to kids” platform. He may very well be tempted to speak out if he felt his kids were harmed. But how can he when he supported continuing the show for 4 years? There’s no way he can say his kids were being harmed and not look like a lying, abusive hypocrite.
OR he really doesn’t see any harm in the kids’ past filming and has no examples to give of how reality tv harmed them.
And there’s no way he could sit next to Jodi and Kevin and NOT get asked, “Why are you here supporting Federal legislation to protect children in reality tv?” What could he say? He let his children be “harmed/abused” because there wasn’t any Federal legislation preventing him from doing so?
Let’s just say I would define the Jon, Kevin, Jodi connection as “strange bedfellows”. Just because Jon effectively ended the filming of the Gosselin children does not mean that somehow they are fighting for the same cause. One could make the argument that Jon is supporting Jodi and Kevin behind the scenes because he would come off looking like a hypocrite. But that begs the question, how can Jon be willing to publicly fight TLC over the same issues (because TLC is obviously sueing Jon because he stopped the filming, morality clause or not) and not be willing to take a stand in support of protections for all kids on reality tv, his included?
Career suicide?
Possible loss of future earnings off of residuals from reruns of J&K+8? DVD sales?
There are just too many unknowns about everyone’s motives to really, probably, EVER know who’s doing what for what reason.
And on a side note….. I like/tolerate Kate in general, but, seriously, she wants to appear in a movie? I thought hosting a tv show was a bit of a stretch, but this….this is just “fishin’ for fame”. But those 6-inch heels were killer.
I saw the Q&A and she did seem relaxed and honest with her responses.
Ann, I do think she threw Jon under the bus a little with her comment about Joel. She said he would be a model or something and some girl would be pulled in to his good looks and find out later that he was clueless. And then she said something like “isn’t that familiar? I did” or something like that. I just don’t think kids need to hear that and she even said friends at school comment on the show. Kids in divorce don’t need to hear that with parents doing that to eachother. My sis-in-law has her cellphone programmed to display “a _ _ hole” when her ex calls and the kids see it on the screen. Drives me nuts!!!!!
I don’t see the movie thing, just because she seems wooden when scripted or not in natural environment (like on The View) and much more natural and relaxed in reality time.
She’s going to be on Ellen Wednesday–that should be interesting….
Interesting article about Jon’s new game plan…
http://entertainment.blogs.foxnews.com/2009/10/27/jon-gosselin-hailey-glassman-fight-with-kate-gosselin/
judy thanks for the link. i actually believe that article. i don’t think jon could come up with all this on his own. and in one of the j&k+8 interviews this summer jon said his friends liked that he was finally standing up for himself…no jon, what they like is the factt hat they can manipulate you and you seemed to have an unending amount of money to party with.
Kimmie, ITA… I do think that Jon’s purpose is more to hurt Kate than to stand up for his kids. Interesting that they note that the money is no longer flowing since has no current income. He certainly never felt the kids were being exploited or abused when he was getting paid for the show… and never once has he said that Kate was anything but a good mother. What will he gain by all of this? I seriously doubt he wants full custody of the kids. If he did, why did he move so far away into such a small apartment? I think this saga is nowhere near ending.
i think he thought tlc would offer him some outrageous sum of money and/or release him from his contract w/o legal penalty so he could pursue other avenues of income in the tv industry. i really think he thinks he is a hot commodity now.
i wonder though if those other avenues of income have been concocted by that *team* who he totally believes in now. i believe kate that he will listen to whoever he is with and also that he wants to believe those who are swelling his ego.
I really enjoyed this episode. I liked her answer to clipping coupons. You would have to be frugal with the amount of people to feed. I believe Kate in putting a rich amount of money aside for the children. I think Jon wants some of that money and will never get his hands on it. I believe she’s grateful for the show and all the opportunities they received because of doing the show. I saw a Softer Kate with less stress and that’s saying a lot with everything she has to deal with because of Jon.
